Sneaking Skill - Maybe a nice addition for rangers

Post by Rovac »

Due to the new bounty system that will hopefully be implemented, a new skill might come in handy.. A bounty hunter as well as a ranger has to get close to a target, most likely in a forest or sth. like that. But right now you cant get close to your target unseen, as even if you're hidden in the forest you can be seen because of the coloured bars.. What about a skill, that lets you chose walking half as fast as the others, but dropping the colour bar while doing so.. This way you can hide from people that are not aware of their environment and arent looking around for players (F12*g*).  Maybe even the player number could be hidden from players with a low perception ability, so they would have to kill the attacker to get to know his name..
I'm just very busy in doing my a-levels, else I could try to help in such a code sequence.

I don't like a bounty system it will make complecations and there will be too many fights.
A sneaking skill, or something similar has been suggested many times in one form or another.

Why do you call it the bounty system?? The idea isn't even the bounty itself. You can already put bounties on people's head right now if you wanted.

Also, why would you know someone's name after you've killed them if you didn't know their name before?

Well, I didnt call it the bounty system, I said due to the fact that there might be such a system, such a skill might be worth thinking of..
And I think there is a difference between looking at a dark figure hidden in the wood, or a dead body in front of yours, where you could see the face, his coat of arms, etc.
(I won't argue about the bounty-system iteself, as this is another thread:D )

That wasn't really the point here.....

I do agree that there should be some sort of "sneaking" skill that could be learned by elite rangers to have the advantage of surprise in battle.  After all, it is realistic and there is such thing as camouflage and stealth.  It does seem like something possible in this timeframe....  A ranger is alone in the forest.  He is moving very quietly through the thick trees at his target.  He leaps out with the element of surprise.... and so on.....   In this game it is much too easy to see an attack coming, which usually catches people so off guard they panic away their few extra seconds making them worse off than if they were ambushed , but that's not the point.  There should be a way to sneak up on someone.

@Rovac: So if you see a figure in the dark you dont' know his name. If you see a person's face even though you've never met this person before you will automatically know his name? People don't write their names on their forehead or their armor you know, they're not jerseys. The whole "introduce before your name is known to others persons system" in Illairon is based on this logic.

I know your point is you want a skill for sneaking up on people. It is already possible to sneak or make ambuses thoguh, but just not in the open thats all. For example you can't see what's on the other side of an apple tree or around the corner of a building. It's not highly effective but it's still usable and I think it's enough because realistically it's not so easy either. But I think fir trees and all other big objects should obstruct the view of what's behind it, just like apple trees.

well, it's possible to sneak already? maybe if you don't use the coloured bars under the characters.. As long as your "target" has these bars activated he can see you behind those normal trees and even see you if you are more than a screen away.. The priority were those coloured bars, as in most cases they work like some kind of player-radar; the recognition of the name was just a not so well thought about idea..

I know, that's why in my last sentence I proposed to make fir trees and other big objects obstruct your view, just like apple trees.
