Food bar
Errr yes, I'm pretty sure there are lots of people dying of hunger everydayQuote: from Sharag on 10:56 am on Mar. 26, 2002
Do real beings die, if they get hungry?

It would be pretty realistic to die if you don't eat and drink for an extended period of time. Hunger also diminishes your strength so perhaps if your food bar drops below a certain level you can't fight until you've eaten some food to replentish your food bar. There could also be a seperate bar for thirst where you can't cast spells when your throat is dry and need to drink something to replentish your thirst bar.

@Dyluck: Yes, one might die after an extended period of time, but not instantly.
"Oh my god, I am starting to get hungry! ARgghhhhhhhhh!"
*you hear a loud groan and then nothing* :D
I think, there surely should be a large room to move, as Dyluck offered with some ideas of diminishing strength.
Altogether, I think, a food bar would be too much. You can't really measure one's hunger in percentages. What about a small field saying: "You are very hungry" or "You almost die of hunger".
Simply different degrees of hunger or repletion.

Food bar
We can add a message "You are hungry", "You are fed up" ...
A bar woudl cause too much server traffic, since it changes constantly.

If we expand on food, we would need bathrooms...
Unless, we are bottomless pits, and we absorb ALL the nutrients...
Hmm... #me taps his chin
I think it should be a little mini-meter...
I know a lot of knights that have spaghetti before a tournament.
Noone fights on an empty stomach!

Food bar
It has been implemented in other games before, and it is pretty realistic. Say if a character is hungry, their health SLOWLY drains away and their actions become slow and hesitant, so you could not fight when you are hungry. This would add a new realistic element to the game. Perhaps if you get too full, say eat too many fish, you also become slow and hesitant to do actions. So with this you could not eat 15 fish just to regain mana, or else you might puke them back up
(hey another idea!). Also potions would have some food value so they could not be used over and over to powergame in a short period of time.

Food bar
In my opinion, the food bar or a mini food bar (moving down really slowly) is a great idea, but I dont like the idea of additional text like "you are hungry" because there are often situations when many people speak at one time /see blacksmith shop in peek hours
/ and its already hard to read so quick and answer, the texts moves up to fast... or maybe the texts like "you are hungry" and these "what would i smith?" etc could show up in another part of the screen not the chat part.
I also like all the realistic consequencess of this eating and not eating, its gonna be fun and real
What about changing healing by food into healing by some kind of NPC paramedic or shaman?

Food bar
how about that...
the bar causes to much server traffic, so how about a system where you have to press a key and it will say what your state is... "you are filled up!" or "you are very hungry!" and so on...
in this way you can check it anytime you want and the textwindow keeps clear... *lol*
