A Petition

Post by concernedcitizen »

This is a petition of the Town Guard.

It would seem that they have stepped out of line for the last time.

Many of our citizens are wanting to get rid of, or change the town's guardmen.

With input from several people, Here are a few reasons why this petition has been started:
  • They were not elected, but self elected.
They dont keep peace. They may have the intentions to, however they do not. They end up causing more trouble than there was before.
They are beginning to own the entire town. Soon it will be, "What they say goes".
They kill people constantly, and some many times over.
They make up laws without the consent of anyone, and they make them "right on the spot"
They have banned many people, some of who did nothing wrong.
These are just a few reasons from some people that they are wanting to get rid of, or change the towns guard.

Here are some things that need to be changed, or the townsguard gotten rid of.
  • They shouldnt be allowed to make laws up themselves. It should be voted on by the citizens. They should post this new law, and it not come into effect for 7 days.
They should limit their fighting, and try to make peace, rather than attack people the first chance they get.
The guards should be elected by the town's people
The guards shouldnt have the power to ban, but instead, the citizens.
I hope that these things could happen, and they would take effect, for if they do not, Im afraid that the town will , indeed slowly, but it will eventually go down.

It would also happen, that many of the citizens are so afraid of the town guard banning them from town, that they are afraid to Sign this Parchment. Many signiatures will be anonomous for this reason.

When signing this, please do not do what other people think, or what people say, but what you think is truly right in your heart. Is killing people when you could make peace with them right? Is making laws up instantly right? Is self-elected guards right? You decide.

Even if this petition doesnt go through, i should hope that it gives the guards a messege. A messege that shows them that they should change the way they handle things.

There are spaces for many signiatures at the bottom.

Brodir walks up the wall, sees the message, and laughs loud. after several minutes of laughing, he takes some coal, and begins to write down many names under the third point. names like "John Smith", "BoBo the mighty" and "Pissin Mypans". after he wrote a dozen names under the third point, he walks away and laughs for several minutes again.

Caitlin asks herself why everyone comes out of the shop laughing, so she goes in and reads the petition.

With a grin on her face she signs:

In flowing elvish script on parchment is pinned below the signing paper...

Here are my thoughts, and I am not afraid to put my name to them... like many of you. And I take it seriously.....

A petition to get rid of the guards? I don't think so... If there were a petition to give them less rule then yes. The town guard aren't all bad.... there are just a few that ruin it for the others. I'd sign a petition for giving them less rule over the people... they act as tho' they own the town, when in all reality they should just be protecting it. The town needs guards.. perhaps we should elect more guards, different ones. But I would not sign a petition to ban them alltogether. Think about what would happen... the real criminals would run loose, there would be no one there who has the right to evict them. They are helpful in certain ways.

Allowing them the authority to inforce rules that make sense and posting a list of rules on the wall is a better idea than ridding ourselves of them alltogether.

Seeker Qµinasa D'Nor

What good reason at all is the guards to be elected? Naturally suffering under their diabolical and tyranic rule is what everyone has always wanted. Of course you guards should stay as the same powerhungry and bloodthirsty organization you always were. It provides such great enjoyment for you and isn't that all that matters?

It seems a lot of people have voted to keep the gaurd the same. This is actually rather odd, because you always hear of people who head sick of the gaurd, and not of the people who enjoy having them and feel safe. Although I think the gaurds should be changed on some point, at least not as radically as here, so I shall vote. "The town gaurds should stay the same". I hope this is the right choice, and if not, may Tanora protect and guide me. And unlike others I am not afraid to sign a name.

I believe that the town guard are working fine, besides a few over enthusiastic individuals, nought needs to be changed.

It is ...interesting that this poll parchment vanished, where about 65 of hundred voted that the town guard should stay as now and 25 of hundred voted that they should do their work more friendly...
Perhaps another possibility to laugh.

Hmmh. Very many people do support the town guard, of course. What did you expect ? I can remember times where no town guard existed. The most humiliating thing that happened to me was when that insane halfling managed to push me off the library roof when i was distracted, without even having a reason for this attack.
Since the town guard do their job, such things don't happen nanymore. Or at least, were reduced to a minimum.
You should be able to know that nonsense like this here will not be taken for serious.

Yes but you also cant throw your useless items down, that you'd hope some person who needed them might come along and find them with out being sent to jail.

Dirt and junk on the streets will likely not be picked up by anyone, and you can give useful things to other people.
Sometimes i almost think that it is truth to the words that some ...people don't care for their surroundings.

well, mister F. it is dumb to hang out such a list. every idiot can write down any names. I think as long as the one who startet this petition don't learn to use his mind, aye, nothing will change. fools cannot change anything, they just give some good reasons for other to laugh.

Another note is attached to the petition

I nominate the following persons for the new townguard:

-Darlok & Grant
-Fluffy
-Drakhen & Ashkatuul
-Udan Trollbane
-Nerevar Schattenaxt
-My uncle Hugo
-Pilzbaizza & the Horde
-Eliza

They will protect us and defeat the threats that might arise.

Unsigned

Lithane bursts out in laughter and heads for the tavern to get into the mood to flirt with the townguards.

Some grey-cloaked person appears in front of the board and reads through the papers. After some minutes he takes a certain kind of black stone out of his bag and starts to cross out all names besides "Fluffy".

"That will be sufficient."

He walks off.

Athian notice Fluffy name as the only one left on the list, he thinks back to the times he's encountered fluffy running about..and shudders.

"That might be overkill..."

Yes it is odd that the parchment disapeared. I however, did not do it. Somone else must have ripped it off.

Perhaps they were scared the guard would be out of commission?

At Any rate, i wasn't expecting to get more votes than the others.

I did, however, want the town's guard to see how many objected with many of the things they did.

Is it not possible to give out fines, or other punishments, besides banning people??

You could, instead of banining people for 1 week, 1 day, or even 1 hour, you cuold fine them. If they dont pay, THEN you could ban them.

Also, many guards, or all of them im not quite sure, as they wont tell us who is in there, appear to think that they own the town or something. I would hope that they realize they do not, and would just do their job, and not more. NO more, and No less.

Also, i forgot to put this into my last post, This is nothing personal with the guards. Some of the guards are good. However, some things that they do shouldnt be allowed, hence this "petition"

Perhaps this Petition should be renamed "request" as we are asking them to change their ways.

Thanks for listening,

As you read you oddly find this handwriting quite similiar to the handwriting from the note above.

Yay! FLuffy would be great!

I dont think there wil be any accurate way of getting a petition correct, unless they took signiatures. And as "unknown citizen" says, they are too scared to give them their name... I suppose they feel intimidated by the guard.

Maybe not all of those chnages listed, but some of them would work.

Don't you think the people should have a say in who is going to be guarding them??

For instance... (not that you would) what if the guards all of a sudden started liking Grant herion, and they wanted him to become a guard. We couldnt do anything to stop that.

I think we should be able to vote on who the guards are.
