Mattocks - New weapon idea

Post by Erdrick »

The title says it all, but heres the dictionary descrip:
Mattock n. A tool having a blade on one side and a pick on the other or one with a blade on each side.

In the Hobbit, the dwarves swung huge mattocks in the war vs. the goblins.

I thought of another thing, something like a staff, but on one end it has a dagger, and a crystal on the other.  It may be something in the future that requires coal and ore, wood, and a gem.  I think it would be cool, and I was going to make a graphic, but I have no good programs (paint really sucks) to make it with, and I have Win98 so I cannot run that new free graphics program.

And Erdrick, nice idea

You should try out blender then. Or 3D Canvas. Both are free, and if you worked yourself into them, they're great. You will need tutorials for that, the blender tutorials are quite well explained, the canvas thing is not as well explained. Here are the links you can download them from :

http://www.blender.nl <- blender

http://www.amabilis.com <- 3D Canvas

Both pages support both freeware and pay versions of the programs.

Blender is not complicated. You only need to do the basic tutorials, and then work yourself into it. Very useful is a list with all keyboard commands.

Fooled it, runs with 4mb   it is a bit crashy though... luckily it has a recovery system :)

I actually got a graphic, after like 30 minutes in the program.  It sucks though (what did you expect?)

see what i mean?
I will try to do more work soon.

Hey, thats not half bad, although it is up to the GM's is they want to put it in.
Do you have a name for it yet?
Maybe that can be the teleportation wand, works with those portal things.
I should try to get another graphic thing soon, the other one Martin reccomended to me before was PRETTY bad. (Couldn't color after you drew lines!)
That and it was a trial version... Hey, Damien/Martin, are those trial versions??

It is meant to be a staff that has a dagger on the other end, but it didn't turn out anything like that

I will have to find a name.  I could call it "The painted metal pole with a beach ball glued on"

I added two spikes through paint, but they dont look as 3D.

It opened fine for me....  I just ran it straight from the zip folder.  It did say in the readme that it works on MOST computers.  Some may be excluded.

I know, the little spikes look very 2D, because I have not yet been able to program it to make spikes in the 3D canvas, so I had to do them in paint

Hey Astral,
could you pls mail me and let me know how on earth you added that pick to the board as I have been working on a new axe and a proposal for the programers, therefore would like to add it to my topic so that I might get some response from the others.

By the way I am using the Pro Designer  from Micrografx. I think there is still a free version on their homepage
http://www.micrografix.com
or in german

:)

1) Who the heck is Tse? "Watch out for Crocodiles?"?
2) Poleaxe, polearm? You mean a halberd or spear?
Please explain yourself.

He explained hisself by giving 9 examples. Spear was one of his examples and halberd would be a 10th example.

Isn't the current war axe already something like a halberd?
Hardly anyone knows about it's range advantage and altogether it's the same, is it?

Oh, allright, but when he says words like Ranseur or some other words that sound somewhat like Hawaiian or something, then I would like him to tell me what on earth they are.
