Erdrick's Class System Proposal - A professional system

Post by Erdrick »

Just to give an idea to the programmers, this idea comes from the well-made game Dragon Warrior AKA Dragon Quest. The system is slightly changed for certain Final Fantasy games also

The Hero (Which is you) Journeys to a Mystic Shrine. (Dharma Shrine in DW/Q)
Here, you walk up the steps to a (King or Noble) and he asks you if you want to change your path in life. You now can switch and choose your classes as you like, which in Illarion the possibilities would be Druid, Mage, Thief, Bard, Merchants or None. When you change classes, and experience and mature, you will learn techniques, skills, spells and secrets. You can change classes whenever you come to the temple, but if you want to Master a class you might want to keep the class for quite a while. Now, this would mean having a part in Illarion where you advance from 'skill meters' to a Class Rank, where Merchants would start as Traders, and with buying/selling experience will advance to higher ranked names. Now, I will give you an example.

Erdrick does the first steps and becomes a Thief ;). He is a low-skilled Thief, so his classification is Pickpocket (Or novice, whichever). He travels around town, and tries to Pickpocket a Dwarf, and gets chased off. Well, thats less EXP than if he would have succeeded. He decides to pilfer some Skeletons, where they won't mind as much. He keeps working at his class for a *LONG* while, and finally advances to a Cutpurse, or Big Thief or something along those lines. He gets better in his skills, and maybe even learns the "Knock-out" skill (Uses a club) and so the system goes. Now, when he changes he loses the skills he gained but if he returns to the Thief class he gets his skills again. Got it?

This class system is VERY advanced for Illarion, a little TOO much as of now, but it was aimed for the future illarion, when we have the e-mail system. I know that "The programmers are totally weighed down with work, we are taking tests, we will not release dates, etc..."
But, I am making a PROPOSAL, as this is the proposal board, and will NOT be put down.
We are the players, we supply ideas, you are the programmers, you (may) listen.
Thank you for your time, and I hope this gave you some ideas for a brighter Illarion.

Your merchant, Erdrick.

So, the proposal is, that we cannot mix skills in a flexible class-crossing-system, and cannot "learn" from a guild or job-master-npc, but have to travel to a mystical king where we select one single class ? ;)

The idea was to give the base-proposal and we expand on it and shape it into something that works. Geez, Damien, you make it seem so negative! ;)
And, I had another proposal, which isn't to the topic, but:
Can we have belts? To hold up those pants, maybe a golden belt, leather belt, steel belt...
I mean, we have Capes, why not belts?

There is no place in the graphics to hold a slot for a belt (it was already a lot of work for martin to find places to fit the other stuff around the body graphics).
I think Damien reacted that way, because we had already a lot of dicussions about a profession system and ended up with thinks that were already a lot more "shaped" and "working".

Ok, but if you don't even bother considering these proposals we give you then take down the Proposal board, since no ideas we come up with are good enough for you :P

Gwaah, i forgot to add a wink in the last post, i'll correct that hehe...

Of course we need the proposal boad. I like the idea of a belt, but as Bror said, it's some work for the gfx... perhaps if martin likes the idea and has some spare time some day in the far future... ;)
And there are always some interesting proposals with new things. Just look at the "Newbie-made" Proposal... there is few stuff that was already said, but some new ideas too. As long as people come up with ideas, we need this Board hehe..

..."if you don't even bother considering these proposals"...
Thanks for telling me what I have done and what not. I have concidered it and found out, that we already had a better solution on that.

Notice the 'IF'! Lately the proposals have been knocked down...
Except for Sebi's which seems to be going fine.

Not "knocked down". But if you compare the quality of proposals, and how often they have been brought up with answers why they cannot be done or that such is planned or a good idea for the future, you will see, that most of the "newer" proposals are EITHER things we discussed long ago, or many times before, or just not in the sense of the game. You see, nothing against proposals in total.

Ok, this topic is getting negative.
I'm sorry Bror for telling you what you were doing,
and to Damien who forgot his wink symbol.
I do understand the quality or some of the proposals...
The point of this proposal was to tell you the system of DW/Q,
which works very well, and makes the games sell well because of that aspect.
The point was to give you an idea for future reference, that is all.
I didn't need anything telling me that there is better proposals than mine.
In fact, I am just trying to give you ideas... Not giving orders, only ideas.
I think that's the purpose of this board, am I correct?

Hey folks,

another proposal from a newbie to make it a bit easier to get into these discussions: Is it possible to put things on which the GMs have decided in some short words (white paper) on the "Konzept FAQ" or somewhere else on the web site? In that way we can discuss with a more realistic background and do not rediscuss things so often. And maybe, we can help the GMs to get the finishing touch on these decisions?

BTW: Great game, lots of fun, good RP here! Keep on going!!

Hi Bredan - It looks like you are the administrator of a game I enjoy ;-) (Bror there too).
Sure this would be possible and would reduce reading in the long rung, but it takes much time to write the ideas down in the beginning and I don't have that time right now. After all most people don't read the concept anyway.
