The first NEW idea in a long time... - GM's please read.

Post by Erdrick »

I have recently read the Main board about Thalan and his complaints...
And I have also read Bror's reply, which suggests that he knows his percentage of Parry.
Well, I don't exactly know HOW he knows, since we don't know the maximum!
A good proposal to aid against this might be to make your skill meter turn Green when it is maxed, and change Blue when it is matured, and so on.
Another idea is to add a little bar telling you where the max is, but that would spoil the fun.
Maybe, also, you can make all of the skill meters equal to a certain point? (End of scroll?)
Please consider this, and give opinions, and I believe this will help Illarion.
Thanks.

I have found a pretty reasonable way to tell a maxed skill (for me it is some magisc :) ).. but i dont want to say it on the board because i will have a bunch of newbies runninng around yelling "I MAXED MY BLACKSMITHING SKILL" and so on.  I get a skill up there to near max, then Ashkatuul comes around and WHAM!, it is down there again!

Astral is right.  There is a way to tell if your skill is maxed out.  Just look at yourself often (check your skills) and use some common sense as well.

Edrick,

I believe the color coded bars have been brought up before.

The past idea was, to instead having levels have diffrent color bars once a skill is maxxed to further excell and create a mre diverse enviroment.

Something has to be added to overthrow all this neutrality. I think there are far to many who are equal to some of the best or close enough.

The BIG diffrence is mage's. If your a mage and you have fast fingers and a good wit you can beat practically anyone expcept the great mage Dyluck :) "love ya hun :P "

My thoughts are as they always have. Illarion needs new land and creatures to explore and conquer and it's skill system expanded and adapted to this.

We must allow time for this development.

If we had color codes or whatever, how would that help roleplay?  In real life, a person does not know when they are as good as they can be at a skill.  If someone in-game knew that their skill was max, they would completely stop doing that thing (most people), because they can no longer impove on that skill.

@Sabrina:
Hey!! What about me!!  Dyluck is not the only great mage here!! ;)

@Astral

I would assume once development reaches that stage, the skill system will be expanded and it will no longer be possible to master in less than a week.

And about that mage buisness..

I stand by my love. Dyluck is the greatest.

Well, there is still a reason to continue your maxed skill.  Don't think I should reveal it though.  Let's say, you can never be perfect.

Usually people can tell if they are good or not at, lets say Fishing.
If you never catch a fish, maybe 1 per week if you fish all the time, you
could say your "skill meter" would be low, and red color.
Now, say you reach a certain point, (say 50 skill in programing, maybe 3/4 inch on meter)
Now, I can see if you THINK you are maxed (you can make good smithed items) but to know if you are truly are a master blacksmith/fisherman it would help if the player would know
the average skill level of his skills, since the limits end not at one place.
I didn't ask for a new environment, just a color change when you experience, thats all.

There are benefits beyond max?  I would expect that the word MAXIMUM would live up to its meaning, but if there are still benefits, this 'max' would no longer be 'max'.

Err... huh?
Well, do you think a simple bar color should be implemented or what?!

I can understand why some people want that, but I do believe that it is fine the way it is.
