Fake introduction
Basically, it allows you to introduce yourself as what you say it is. I heard one of Hagen's characters had this problem, he introduced them as something, someone pushed f12, and found out their real name and told it to some people.
Ok, you just go "#i-name" or some other command like it, press enter and you've introduced as that name. The regular #i should still work to introduce your real charname. The abusers would probobly be few, as you can already abuse the titles, and I haven't seen anyone with "sir name the 1337 h4x0r". This way people can't force you to #i or they kill you because they don't know if your lying or not (which shouldn't be used anyway), the hunter could still abuse it by checking the player stats list, but they would have to alt-tab for it. This would help bad-character's roleplay I think.
I can't really think of any reason why not to do this, since you could still recognize the other character even if it is by their fake name.

I believe an addition to this proposal should be to enable the ability to assign a name to other characters who have not #i ed to your character. This would alleviate many of the problems that could be created with this proposed system before they even became a problem. If I know Character X to be a thief from countless physical descriptions given in town, I should be able to remember the name of this person if they were encountered on the streets, if the name had been heard previously of course, false or not. I, the player, should not have to commit player names/numbers/alias to memory, because my character would be the one to know this information. As it is now, the physical appearance is represented in a roleplaying fashion by a set of numbers, which for many of us, are harder to memorize and associate with a name than the actual physical appearance of a person. It would be nice to be able to assign a name to these faces we have grown accustomed to over time without having to track them down and asking them to #i.
This of course could cause problems if not limited. It is not reasonable for a character to be able to remember the name of countless casual acquaintances or notorious characters that have only been encountered on only a few occasions, it is more likely to remember the names of close friends (represented here by characters who have #i ed) than that of strangers you hear mentioned on the streets. Therefore I think there should be a set number of names you could assign to characters without them using #i, and this set number could be intelligence dependant, the higher a characters intelligence, the more “strangers” he or she could recognize and recall their names, where as an imbecile would have trouble remembering the names of even their closest friends, much less remembering the names of those they have had little contact with. If the limit of assigned names was reached, they could “forget” the name of one or more of their memorized characters, and remember a new name in its place, or just alter the name a character is known by if new information is provided regarding their identity.

Assigning people their own recognizable name or number or something? Well, I say you should have a time limit, and/or an amount limit. This way you can't remember someone from months ago when they stole your few ingots. I'm not a dev, so I wouldn't know specifically, but this is not on their priorities, and would probobly be too much work to implement for any benefit.
