k well i know this idea would take alot of programming but its an idea...what if whatever you had equipped, showed up on your char? ex: human char has sword, boots, lion shield and viking helmet. then you would see ur char wearing all the stuff, i think i would add some uniqueness to the characters rather than having all species look the same... btw:be prepared for the soon to come BRINERY tavern!!

As far as I know this feature is only included in commercial games like ultima online (which required the full-time-paid work of several dozends of graphic artists). This would require to draw any weapon that is available in
4 movement directions
for every gender/race combination (even in ultima online there were no races and male/female character had almost the same graphics)
Same goes for shields, helmets, armors....
This would not only increase the graphic work for the artists by several 100 percents, it would also increase the network traffic (the client must know the shield/armor/weapon... combination of everyone), slow down the graphic display speed (drawing a player would now require to draw a few layers) and require more gaphics (i.e. memory) for the client.
In short: a lot of additional work and higher hardware requirements.

aye... (isnt this an old issue?)
but maybe in the future we could have
differnt apparances for different luxury points (when we get that)
like the richest and best clothed guy would go in gold and stuffs...
and maybe it should be kind of like tibia...
like you may choose the way you look in the begining...
like, blond hair, dark hair? a big beard, no beard, small beard... and such...
this would also be alot of work for the graphic artists...
but in the long run we would have more variety...
and it wouldnt do much more inpact on the hardware i think... some maybe but not much...

Hallo

the main problem is still the graphic artists have to make all the gfx first and not to put them into the game

more gfx means more to download

@Captain Kirk: I think new gfx dont mean much more download. You can send a normal graphic file for all in the standard Client. This Grafics will be used by all, who have not downloaded the others. The most players have a good Internet connection and can download the other graphic files and the server in game send only the message, which graphic is to show for the player. This means only the drawing is the great work and this can be done by the time.

i like that idea on to personalize ur char but it kinda sucks for us who already have characters, unless u made it available to change it at all times, which would mean ALOT of work i guess but its always out there...i couldnt possibly imagine a dwarf without a beard!! neither can my scottish disrgruntled druid dwarf friend here, Matthias the third: ach! tis a bloody outrage dawrves without beards!! lol

Hallo

i meant the size of the client you have to download (for me it isnt a problem to download a 100 MB client)

how i said the making is the problem
we have now ~9 diferent char gfx , ~5 shield gfx, ~3 daggers, ~5 swords, ~5 capes ~5 helmets, ~8 staffs and other armors and weapons now you can start to calculate how many combos exist this do you multiply with 16 than you know how many gfy the graphic artists have to make. and in the next version shall perhaps came new armors and weapons

and about the time a gfx needs to be ready i better dont start to think of

if you are good at gfx i think help from you is very welcome :)

i think a way will be (perhaps is) found to personalize your char
i think a text description about your apperance would be enough now (readable ingame)

oops i forgot that u want move in other directions too (was too late for me i think) *g* so i replaced the 4 with a 16 :)

Bye
Read ya

The other possibility would be, to split the character forms in different parts, like Faldon (now costs money) and Era Online (has been abandoned) do/did.
Means, it would be divided into different heads, hair and colour, torso, legs, arms, shields and weapons. And ALL of these graphics would need to be made new for EVERY movement phase. That means a multiplier by 16 (4 Directions, 4 movement steps) !
Since these different graphics had to be placed one above the other, i think it is not technically possible in the client. To make it that way, you would need a) LOTS of Pixel-exact fitting graphics, b) the technical ability of the client to work like that, c) after you have both, much much much bug testing.
And not to mention, to rework the client for such a thing, would take a whole lot of time. Perhaps such thing can be made in the very very far future. But not now.

And that's not all, it isn't only the client download, your connection will be suffering a lot. If now the server has to transmit the race only then it will have to transfer a lot, and really a lot of data everytime you meet with somebody.

That would be a lot of trouble for the poor people who design this game!

But could it be that way, that the differences between knight and mage for example could fix?
Its strange, that knights look like this.
Or only cloth can be different from leather or normal armor.
Just my oppinion.
