The two things I could advise are A: Defrag your hard drive and B: make sure no other tasks are running in the background while playing.  If you see more than a speaker icon towards the bottom right hand side of your screen in Windows then there are other tasks running.

Hehe, running Illarion in window mode would help. It would make it easier to use macros. ;)
And that's the reason why I think fullscreen mode is better.

Macros are not allowed, as far as i know. And they are not roleplay-like. I will personally slay persons when i am sure they use macros...!

I dont use macros the reason why i want to run illarion in windowed mode is so i can run winamp (a mp3 player for those who dont know) in the back round. so am I to assume that there will be no way to make this windowed?

I would also greatly appreciate running illarion in a window because it makes it easy to check irc and email periodically. A lot of times I stop playing Illarion or decide against playing it because it is fullscreen.

If people are going to run macros, they will find it just as easy to run them in the background anyway. Take delta-force 2 for example - there are lots of cheats which all run in the background behind the fullscreen game. It would be far better to prevent or detect macro useage on the game server.

Preventing windowed mode makes the game a whole lot more limited in how people can play it, but only a little harder to run macros in.

Additionally, I can program C/C++ so I can help out with that where needed.

1, There is a rule against bumping old posts like this I think.
2, If you want to check somthing periodicly, use alt tab, see if anything interesting has happened, thats what I do, it's simple, and unlessyou intend to write a long reply to somthing, it wont cause a problem.

There will be no fullscreen mode.

You want to know why?

1) the game is restricted to 1024x768 ... only possible in FSM
2) it's a protection against scripts
3) there are more important things to think about

And don't forget to remove the dust when you dig deeper in the forum.

rule against reviving old posts? He did what everybody's always shouting at everybody else to do. Use the search function. Somebody makes a new topic people get annoyed because it's already been proposed before and they make a sarcastic comment linking them to the search page. He did that and didn't make a new topic and you say he shouldn't do that?

That's right and it's understandable, because they have to answer the same question(s) again and again.

Well, I think the sense of it is, to read the old posts before you write the new post. The new post should consist of a completely new question. Just when your question isn't answer in the old post you should start a new one.

*shrugs* but he wasn't proposing anything different, just expressing his opinion on a previous topic. I see what you mean though, but i think that in this case it was better that he didn't make a new post.

I didn't really have a question anyway, I just wanted to voice my opinion on the topic. I thought it would be stupid to make a new post, but I can see how it can be annoying when topics end up with pages and pages of posts.

Unfortunately alt-tab doesnt work for me, because when I get back to Illarion the screen just stays black.

I don't believe macro prevention is a good reason not to have windowed mode. If you can alt-tab, you can run macros, and even if you can't, it's still possible to make macros that will work. The way to prevent macros is on the server.
Secondly, it doesn't even affect the game itself. It comes down to how the game is presented, and currently people are unable to adjust that presentation to something they feel more comfortable with.

I can understand the point that there are more important things to deal with. And if the game is locked to 1024x768 I can see how that would take a fair bit of programming to make the graphics scaleable. However to say that there will never be a windowed mode implies you will never get all the other more important things worked out.

I'd also like to volunteer to help out. I remember trying a while ago, but I can't remember exactly what I did and didn't get a response. I'm a pretty good coder and understand the need to follow the existing style and method of coding the engine.

They do have other macro prevention on the server, but I don't think this is the right place to offer your services as a coder. I suggest contacting a dev, they are all listed on the homepage under co-workers.

When you alt-tab out, and then go back into the game, it stays black for a few seconds. My monitor readjusts (you can hear the clicks) when I got into and out of the game (even though my desktop resolution is 1024x768).
