Hieght, wieght, and charecterisitics also come into play with numbers!

Conversations to!

If you hear someone talking to someone you do not know, you tend to remember what they look like, both parties (If its in your character to even care, its bad RP for a farmer or mere peasent without a nefarious backround to even be listening on conversations)

Full numbers not on the rpg board, is understandable

But RPing seeing someone before, or recognising someone based on clear logic that your character CAN use isent bad RP, its simple life skills.

Maybe you should address that to the player of Gru'kuk. Notice this is the general forum. Ok ok Elaralith yes I had a little hard time trying not to mix ic with ooc, especially when I thought it was ok to write down the numbers of theives and/or evil peoples, although evil peoples usually stand out anyhow. Maybe not mixing ooc and ic should be described in the manual, it is on the first page, however this might help those who go strait for the manual to find out what the games about.

I want to add a short comment on remembering faces and such...

1. do not write down numbers at all, but try to memorize them
2. like it could be hard for european people to memorize asian faces or african faces it is definately harder for a human to memorize the face of an orc or a dwarf or a halfling... they simply look all the same to them

dwarfs have enormous beards, whereas orks are stinky and green and halflings have the look of a cute child with enormous hairy feet...

and yes... i did not read all of the posts.. it would be quite hard to go through 7 pages of this discussion

against your point 2 Zerbus: It's hard to memorize people from other cultures, cause you dont live with them or see them very often.
But in Illarion the contact between the races is normaly very high, so they can memorize an orc, halfling, whatever better than you as a european or american asians.

I have also seen many points of bad roleplaying. There are players that have seen me on one of their characters and then use that information on their new character. So when I say "hello" to a group of my character's friends, there are always other characters that I have never introduced to that know my name.

I get this alot too, however being around town and popular will make people remember your features (number). Like bloodhearte, even if he hadn't introduced to you he was noticed quite a bit among the townspeople for his deeds.

It was also very simple to notice Bloodhearte by the way he moved, quite stealthily in fact. He, surprisingly, had a friendly demeanour, yet once you got to know him a bit better, there was a darker side to him.

All of the newbies these days follow the same pattern:
Log on
Ask hundreds of OOC questions
Are told to ask thes questions IG and to roleplay
They adjust their roleplay by throwing in a few "thine" and "thous"
They seemingly fade into insignificance, yet resurface about two months later, with uber (dont know how to do the umlaut :P ) powers and a thirst for Darlok's blood.
They express this thirst in an array of CAPS LOCK INSULTS and nonsensical ramblings.

Yes, I'm aware Deies has done this, but lots of other newbies have done this in the past. I may not be the best roleplayer by far, and admit to sometimes posting or acting before I think-"Would a Hobbit really do this..." but I am learning all of the time. Some newcomers wont even try and learn and aim for Sephiroth like power and stature...this is not going to happen.

Took the words right out of my mouth Brendan...

In short, this particular newbie generation cares more about their shades of red skills rather than roleplaying, and most of them are trying to become gods.

In my opinion, it would help if GMs were on more often, or perhaps, more GMs to play in game. They can go to the social areas of town, maybe travel a bit, and when some newbie is told not to powergame, mix IC with OOC, PK, roleplay better, etc. etc., they'll actually listen to that GM (because they sure as hell don't seem to be listening to the veteran players).

Perhaps it would be even a greater idea to put a sticky on the general boards about proper roleplaying manners, getting into the bare details. By details, I mean putting up a list of things that should be considered like "It is improper to abuse the paralysis spell, you must play fair." Or "If you're playing a hobbit, it is highly suggested you do NOT be publically known as a wizard, considering hobbits aren't magical creatues. This goes for orcs trying to hug trees; read moonsilver.de to learn how to properly roleplay an individual of your race." Or maybe, "If you're trying to find the location of an herb, item, etc., then ask the question in game, because it is not an OOC matter." And, my favorite, "Don't call demonkind weak. They are demons nether creatures, beasts from nightmares, and you should be roleplay in a cautious manner if you rarely ever decide to fight one of these things. There is also no such thing as weak magic, because magic is a supernatural concept. Just because a fireball is missing a rune doesn't mean it's weak; Use your skills for roleplaying, not roleplaying for your skills."

I miss the days when I first began, where not everybody who came in was a demon slayer...when earning a reputation took good RP work, not "red shaded" skills, when people were more intelligent. Anybody else?

The best lesson in life, is that you'll never know the truth. In this case, I don't know whether you're telling the truth or not about your red shaded skills, and don't care. It's more or less of an honor system thing.

Never to touch the blade again!? har har, theres an all caps post by you, deies that says basically says "I WANNA FIGHT WITH DARLOK"

Im sick of newbies who never listen to reasoning. The people who do these things will never read or pay any attention to thses posts. Athian Is allways training with others, nearly non-stop. He trains very poorly, while training they just have a normal conversation while they stab each other with rusty daggers! He acts as though Demons and spiders are childs play. Someone told me that Athian said he got gold from the spider cave. Then when the person said "boy you must be a brave knight to fight spiders like that" He merely laughed and said heh spiders are nothing. If im not correct spiders are nearly just as hard as demons.

I constantly see people lighting fires in the middle of the road in front of the library. Wouldnt you light them in the grass? away from buildings, not in the middle of the road right next to the road. I once saw an elf light a fire inside the library! wheres the roleplay sence in that?

What I dont get is why would you really try and pg your skills. I mean if your going to do something quite well it takes time. Also if your going to just pg you skills why come to Illarion? There are many other places out there like that and I have played most thats why I came to Illarion where skills arent the key points. Also I think that is why many people come to illarion but they are so familiar((took me a second to think of a good word :) )) with the games that you dont rp that they are seemingly change illarion into those games. Which in the end the will most likely quite because it turned into a game that they didnt want but whats funny is that they turned it into that

Lemme see, you don't have to fight with a blade. Also so people are arrogant, or get carried away. Deies might be that character. Maybe if you read some of the peoples descriptions then you would find out the reasons they act.

I'm sick and tired of hearing "its all thew newbies fault illarion went to hell"

now if I may pull a cheap pop, newbies can and will come back to kick your ass.....

Illarion chronicle:

In the year one of the new era on october, the 3rd the Riders of Moshran under Tal Rash started a war against the Mephisto Empire under Sean because of the attacks of Mephisto Empires at Tal Rash.

In the year one of the new era on october, the 4th the Mephisto Empire under Sean was searching after the "Best of the Best". Sean (ME) said that Shadron (KotF) and Tal Rash (RoM) are his enemys. He asked the "Bloodskull Clan" for help. His biddings where not acceptet, but Gurok (BSC) helped him.

In the year one of the new era on october, the 6th the Mephisto Empire under Sean started a war against the Grey Light. After the Grey Rose and the Silverstar Merchants said they will help the Grey Light in war Sean stoped the war and said he was drunken when he started it.

In the year one of the new era on october the Mephisto Empire started some small wars against some other guilds.

In the year one of the new era on november, the 3rd "Mephisto Empire" and "Ranger" fusion together to one guild. Fathe Boron leave the Rangers because he dont like the idea of this guild anymore.

In the year one of the new era on november, the 20th Sean founded the "Praetorian Guards" and bid other guilds for some help.

In the year one of the new era on november, the 26th Sean, leader of the "Praetorian Guards" want to speak to every guildleader of Illarion. The reason of this meeting is unclearly.

In the year one of the new era on december, the 3rd a sniper murders someone in the library. Dyluck suspected Sean. The attack is still inexplicably.

In the year one of the new era on december, the 19th Sean starts a war against the "Riders of Moshran".

In the year one of the new era on december, the 29th Roke and Sean startet a big guildadvice. As leader Aragon wanted Damien and he was common accepted. Under this lead they worked some standarts out. Damien, Dyluck, Astral, Roke, Tialdin and Aragon helped. After this standart following guilds become two seats in this advice: Grey Light, Grey Rose, Magic Academy and the following one seat: Ironhammers, Titans, Rangers, School of Combat. Because of Erdricks asks the Silver Star Merchants become one seat, too at the 29th of january. A second meeting in the middle of january accepts this standarts. Some controversys and fights made Sean and the Peace Keepers to close the guildadvice.

I came from other online games, was completely out of Online RPG atthe time, and in less then two months won wars, made alliances, and raised all sorts of hell, not to mention made friends, and them friends to be friends with each other. I may have been banned, and still ridiculed for the things I did, but I hold no remorce for what I Did, or how I did it.

Newbies arent all bad, because newbies are what keeps this society going with their sometimes "Stupid" or "moronic" or of the sort "Ways"

Newbies keep our chars life interesting, and in this time of illarion thats a plus, so don't complain to the newbies because you cant handle an RP vs PG situation.

The only thing newbies need to remember is this is an Online, enforced roleplaying game, not an online, Redline Power Gaming game.

What happend to all the good RP'ers?

A few have left for reasons of their own knowing, its sad but true just as some of thier characters are truley missed. Others, they RP for a while then take a break for variouse real life issues, occupations, finances even just get plain board or burnt out of playing the game.

But there are still many good RP'ers here some of which are a true joy to ineract and play with. They are just... by many of you over looked as you chit chat on about who can RP and who cant. Being a newbie/n00b/n00ber what ever derogatory term you wish to lable them with, does not mean they can not RP. Beside those that are not so good and truly enjoy the game quickly root in and grow, some of whome have flowerd.

I think a 'good' RP'er has alote to do with your personal preference and style of play, so one persons choice of what/who is 'good' is anothers 'not so.' So play with an open mind.

Drathe is absolutely right about the fact, that there are many different styles of roleplaying and that you should play with an open mind. I try to adjust my roleplay in order to be able to interact with most of the players, but there is a certain type of players, who make that almost impossible.

I do not want to blame the decrease of roleplay to the newcomers alone, but what i really cant stand, is the archetype of nowadays. Those who would really need a superhero badge to satisfy the ego of their players. You know, the type that cannot be impressed by anything, that doesnt fear death or pain and generally behave like a 16-year old school kid, trying to convince the other pupils of their new school how cool they are. I was very surprised as a newbie called my char a "mere mortal" as an answer to his request, that the person apologized for intruding private property, which isnt a very offensive thing, or so i thought.

As my char was new to Illarion i tried to reflect his situation by playing him somewhat unsure and at least a little humble in the face of an unknown land full of fantastic secrets and creatures. I do not think that a newcomer to an unknown island would willingly try to make oneself enemies by beeing generally rude to the long term citizens and not missing any chance to start a brawl. No wonder so many are doing nothing else than powergame, after they have been disrespectful to almost everyone and are now trying to take revenche for being humilated. (from their point of view) My char had some troubles with other chars as well (for example Grant and Bloodhearte) ,but i did not come back to insult them, immidiatelly after i got killed/injured or threatened them with ridiculous posts on the shop wall. (I really cant see anymore "I will hunt you down"-posts) I know that it isnt easy to adjust to a medieval society, where not everyone is equal and the nobles are supposed to have every right of feeling themselves superior, but if you cannot come along with this you should better stick to a roleplay which takes place in modern/future times, where it is usual to behave rude and overconfident even when you are a bloody newcomer.

Generally this situation leads to a point, where experienced players tend to just ignore the new players and stick to the interaction with players/chars they know. This is a sad thing as there are some new players, who really do their best to improve their roleplay. Im sorry i cant offer a really good solution to this except by increasing the demands of the account-application, but there are many good arguments against it as well.

I still think the best way to stop people pg'ing is to remove the skills screen altogether, and with the occupations that have diffrent sets of things, instead of making a hammer which just puts you over the skill for the next set, and being able to make a load of other things for no reason, you have to go to the library, and find a book on blacksmithing, which will tell you how to make that, and you can only learn them, once you have enough skill, but since you don't know how much skill you have, they have to stop and go to the library, and try to learn how to make a new item.

This is also an important point in this discussion.
I started to play this game last month and therefore I know how hard it is to interact with other chars for a newbie.
The "core" of the "good", rolplayers or lets call it experienced illarion inhabitants ;) often dont really like to interact with the new ones.

In my opinion its quite easy to see after talking to a new guy for about 5 min. if he takes the roleplay serious or just wants to be the strongest char on the island.

I think its up to the good and experienced roleplayers to help newbies to get integrated in the society...I dont think that the percentage of good-bad roleplayers changes, at least not in a drastic way.
Im quite sure that there were always idiots on the island, and will ever be and therefore it is even more important to protect and integrate the new ones who really want to get involved in a serious roleplay.

Well, that isnt the easiest thing. Anyone comes up to me and talks to me, whether old or new, they are going to get the same reaction. Mean responses....Why? because that is my character....It ruins my Character if I broke and said.."oh, your new..okay, I will teach you how to and where to dig for sand" Instead of saying "Go run around in the dessert then empty all the sand from your pants into a bucket" Im not going to make my character a pansy just to help new characters.

Just take them for another person. They come up to you and say "hello", my response would be "hello, would you like to buy something?" If they reply "No I was just wondering if you knew anything about finding quartz sand" I would simply say "What would it be worth for me to tell you?" "Erm maybe I could repay you in sand?" me- "sure come with me, you'll need some shovels and some provisions" Just treat them like you would anyother person, I don't think anymore should be expected. However mixing ooc with ic and seeing their number and treating them like a noob is certainly uncalled for. If they reply "I am new to the island could you show me how to deal with the shop owners" then you have a reason to treat them like a new person.

I think the best way to help the bad roleplayers is to lead by example although this does not always work.
For Example....
I was cutting trees around the zombie area (before the drought) and noticed two humans powergaming at the zombie area. I say powergaming because they were just standing there killing but not taking the loot. Any one with a brain will not leave a perfectly good sword or helmet just lying on the ground.
As I was returning to the area from carrying a load of logs to the depot human1 was running toward the bridge with a zombie on his tail. I got between him and the zombie and killed the zombie.

me: Are you ok?
human1: Thanks, that one just about killed me though I will be alright.

He then headed right back into the ruins even though he was nearly killed and obviously has badly wounded. I thought I would hang around outside the ruins just in case. Sure enough another zombie comes chasing him out of the ruins. I killed this zombie then turned to human1.

human1: Thanks again, that was close.
me: This is getting to be a habit forming.
human1: I can usually handle one of them but when 2 or 3 come around it is too much.
me: perhaps you should go to town and rest awhile and leave the zombies alone.
human1: Yeah, I am really tired and sore and I need to get these wounds bandaged.

I went into the ruins to see human2 surrounded by three zombies. While he was attacking one of them I killed the other two.

human2: Do you mind?
me: #me looks confused
me: Do I mind what?
human2: I can handle them myself.
me: All I know is I see that you are surrounded by zombies and in peril so I tried to help.
human2: Well it's kinda hard to train when you keep killing my monsters.

Then I just walked off muttering something about damned Tibia players.

I think human1 was influenced by my roleplay and jumped right in with some of his own but human2 seemed to be incurable.

Human2 actually had the cheek to say that to you, usually they just get annoyed and make you feel unwelcome. You shoulda definately given him some stick for that one.

Power Gaming is bad. I hate it.
The thing that looks good with Illarion is the rollplaying.
The bad things is power gamers and the fact that few players play it.
