Prison Times (Idea)

Greetings,
I have an idea, which i believe may have been discussed before.
I think that players who have been sent to prison for say 8+ hours should have an option of turning that into a RP-efficiant ban, so that you do not have to be online or on Illarion Client to do your prison time. The reason why i think this is because:
Server Costs - 1p+ per minute
Boredom/Health - Sitting infront of a computer screen for hours (very healthy approach)
And more.
Perhaps if you felt that RP Banning is not harsh enough perhaps the player could have an option of say 8 Hours Prison (While in client) or 24 Hour Prison (Offline or out of Illarion client)
Thanks

Twenty four offline hours is not by any means long enough to compensate for the ten hours in-game. Sure, it's unhealthy if you sit ten hours in row infront of your computer.. but it's also stupid.
Perhaps it's not even ment so that you should do it at one time.
Twenty four hours is really nothing, however, I'm listening as soon as we're talking about realistic option such as five days.

I agree, maybe 1 week. But it is VERY hard to sit infront of a computer screen for 10+ hours and unhealthy and if your promoting it i'm sure some health organizations won't be happy.
If you try and minimize the game when in prison there is a macro problem so it closes.
Even if you looked at your character in prison in say sections, still 1 hour is far too long, and even if you did 15 mins a night, it would still take ages.

Probably. But then again, I don't care.

Yes, AFAIK, it's supposed that you'll have to be there while your character is in prison. Which I don't find to be that bad idea at all. Perhaps some mixed punishment would be good, I.e five days in jail including one/two hours of *forced* online-time. Somehow I just don't fancy the idea of the players simply switching for another character, until their jailed character would be released.

Yes, well it does matter as promoting that could effect your health which is illegal in some countries, as far as i know [Promoting It]

If you got 8 hours, you deserve it... :/

How do they deserve it? For trying to roleplay a thief they are doomed to spend 8 hours on illarion with nothing to do? It isn't fair. Yes people know that if you steal etc you can face the prison time but that does not make the time they spend doing nothing fair. The GM's have said they never intended for people to be put in there for so long so it's as good as abusing a part of the system. The GMs use the prison to punish people who break the rules, and are usually only sentences of 10-20 minutes, and yet people who are even good roleplayers who have never broken a rule can get up to 10 hours.

In my opinion, this jail talk has been done to death.
How about criminals get punished in alternative ways, ways suitable to what would happen to a criminal in the middle ages?
For example, keep the criminal trapped, bound to a certain area in front of the public for 2 in game hours? So maybe, the townspeople can throw old vegetables and stuff like that at 'em.

doing prison time offline is far way to easy. What will that teach?. Now sitting infront of you computer for 10 hours teaches you not to do it agian. Also if you have to pay per minute then dont do anything stupid

If they have to pay per minute they would just say screw it and never come back unless it was with a diffrent character. 1 or more weeks of banning and that I think would be a good Punishment

Gurik I think you've mixed up two types of criminal. Abusers of the game rules should get 10 hrs jail time, no question, no argument. IC criminals should get much less. We need the IC criminal element otherwise we are likely to die of niceness. Already there are far fewer good BAD characters because its not worth the jail time.

No absusers should get a ban. Cause You cant do 10 hrs in jail and expect them to just wait for either 1 hour a day or something or all 10 hrs. They wouldnt do it unless they dont pay per hour. Then they would just leave the desk and take a nap or do something else. But if they were to be banned then they couldnt play. Cause I know there are ways to ban IP's so no character would work unless they change their IP which I dont think the average player knows how to do

You all don't seem to understand that this is a game in it you are ment to have fun. You shouldn't have to be logged out of a game for a week. I think Lyrenzia is a horrible idea, just because the jail system is a horrible idea. I still think the seperate island for prisoners idea is a good idea. The Prisoner will be able to move around, and roleplay a bit with other prisoners, be able to do things in a game.

i actually like that idea... send prisoners to a seperate island. But then we still come up with the topic of people who have to pay per minute....

but the prisoners will be active. They will be able to mine/fish/lumberjack, whatever for the amount of time they are on the island. And I would suggest that time be lessened considerably.

that would make the prison time "Enjoyable" then, do we really want prison time to be Enjoyable ?

prison time in a game enjoyable? Yes.

yes.. since its in a game..a game should always be enjoyable not boring. sitting in a prison for 10 hours is not fun. ok Grant im starting to get your point

Olo, I don't think an abuser should be banned first offence, unless it's a realy bad one. Often 10 hrs in jail gives the abuser time to think, I have seen abusers change their ways if given the right incentive and encouragement. If they offend again then we can talk bans.
I like the island idea but it should have a nasty element to it as well. Something that allows you to "do something" but also makes it so you don't want to come back too soon.

Maybe this. On the island whatever that person does mines/lumberjacks/ ect... Part of it Well I say most of it would have to be delivered after they get off of it. Like if they get alot of wood then A certain amount would be taken from them. No sense in making it profitable to go to prison

I think Olo has a good idea right there.

I like that idea!.. ok they send you to the island and you have to collect a certain amount of coal or iron or wood to get off it just depends on what you did to get into prison

Hmm like that one even better. Hard labor so to speak. And you dont get any skill for it if that is possible
Posted: Fri Jan 30, 2004 3:52 am
by Gurik Elvenstar
That is a awsome idea you wont gain any skill! thats pretty harsh

Exactly thats the reason why you do it. Work hard with no pay off but getting free

The materials the prisoners get can go to funding of trollsbane. They will actually help build more things in the town
