I am about to start playing Illarion and the only thing I can think about is picking a good race... I love mages but I want to try being a thief but I want to know consequences. I want to play Illarion with the my correct race and the way I can get that is very detailed information on each race. If everyone can please work together to put down information about a race, please do so. I would be extrememly happy if this helps me out a bit.
Thank you all so much!

I would love to see you using the "Newbie Board" for these kind of questions.
Thank you.

hmm,you could be an Halfling if you like stealing other people stuff "although its not implemented yet",you could learn magic to if your a halfling but it might be limited in the future update of illarion.
P.S: just dont steal my stuff next time we meet

The majority of Hobbits in Illarion are not thieves. We farm and work hard to get what we have. Humans and orcs seem to be thieves the most these days.

All other races except Dwarves are thieves. Universal truth.
Raigeki,
Take a good look at the webpage that Fjalara presented, but think about this. Don't pick a race simply because:
- 1.) You think it looks 'cool'
2.) Of what race other people tell you to play
3.) You are unsure of what race suits your playing best.
Try to pick a race that fits into your style of playing. If you want to play a mage, then I wouldn't recommed dwarf or halfling, unless you have roleplay-wise explanation why they want to become ones. I strongly recommend that, if you are unsure of what kind of character you would like to play, you would pick a human as your first character. Humans don't have 'restrictions' similiar of those that other races have and you can freely examine what you prefer, hence the recommendation. Remember, that you can always create other characters, so perhaps, you really should think about a human.
Have fun.

Why are you asking what you should be? Be what you can roleplay! I could never rp an Orc probably, so I would never be one. Also...if you are really open to suggestions...Be a Dwarf Female...all those ugly dwarven men ran most of the women off..and I know for a fact Caranthir is lonely...hehehe

A female dwarf? Arr, please don´t do that, the population of female dwarves has increased by 300% within the last months and the men don´t worship Belegi anymore.
Cara is right, in case of doubt pick a human, you can´t make too many mistakes with that one. In my own personal opinion, this is my order of hardest races to play:
female orc (hardest)
female dwarf
male orc
male dwarf
female halfling
female elf
male elf
female lizard
male lizard
male halfling
female human
male human (easiest)
As a mage, I suggest humans or elves, within limitations lizards. But don´t pick a dwarf or even an orc, please. And dwarven thieves aren´t common as well.

Dwarven thieves aren't common? Please. Instead of stealing the money, the dwarves steal the object that provides the money. *thinks of coal*

eheh, I should say alot of dwarves would let greed get the best of them, dwarven theives shouldn't be forbidden exept for the few exceptions. Other dwarves money pushes their greed to the limits and voila they want money quickly and brag about it.

I would like to point out, that 'Thief' and 'Greedy merchant' are two different concepts which are not to be mixed with eachother (Except in character

.) Greedy merchant aims for highest possible profit in bussiness and is willing to do dirty tricks to archieve that.
Thief however, steals without too much of fancyness. There are similarites, but separate the two.
Furtherly I'd like to note that asking high price for one's products is not always greed.

I find it interesting that those who are complaining about the dwarves selling
their coal come from that country that declared the only society where everything was supposed to belong to everyone to arch- enemies
