I really agree with Faramier..I mean, it makes a lot of sense..If someone decides they dont wanna be a mage any longer, then, as they practice sword fighting (or whatever), then there mage skills decrease over time, since they havent been practicing them, and, obviously, their fighting skills increase.

Only reason I don't like this is because my mage character weilds a shortsword, and can defeat mummies in a record time of around 10 hits when he's out of mana. Having your main skills decrease for what little you use your sidearm would be very annoying. Perhaps if your mage skills weren't used over a certain amount of time they would start to drop when you used a weapon?

Simple, make skills drop over time, so it's very hard to keep your weapon skills and magic skills both really, high, so you should just get really good at one.

But this creates the problem, that people who will be using most of their time doing something else than the Hard-coded skills, will experience this as negative effect on their skills. I am not saying that there couldn't be any skilldecrease, I am just saying that it shouldn't be really really hard, because I don't want to find myself doing some thing each and every day I decide log in, if I want to keep my mastership.

I know, it's like you MUST tailor every day or then your messed up. That's not fun. A game shouldn't have these kind of obligations. I am all for the decrease of skills because that is really what happens. But over months, It's not like the next few days you forget how to smith.

Actually, I find it rather difficult to progress in fighting as it is (despite the fact that a newbie demon slayer is the norm these days), so I would rather keep the skill it took so much time for me to gain.

Besides, I'm just getting back into the roleplaying groove. Or something like that.

I don't agree with you at all.

If skill would decrease over time... what would I do?

Zerbus has worked hard to be a fighter... to keep his skill up he would be forced to fight - no matter if I like it or not - Zerbus would have to fight.

Many of your characters would suffer at that sort of practice ;-)

Mages would have to cast spells all the time...
Carpenters would have to work all the time...

and if you are a carpenter and a mage?

you would have to cast spells while you cut wood, eh? ;-)

nono... I think this is a bad idea.

I think the skill should decrease. That what would happen, but over a longer time so you may take breaks. Because obviously people forget things.

How about, instead of worrying about skills all the time, focus on roleplaying.

I agree, but this is just an idea, it is not somehtign I focues on all the time.

Something you've done for such along time you wouldn't readily forget over a short period of time. Yes I agree with Zerbus this would only lead to MORE pg.

Well I am against decreasing skill because you only don´t use it.this makes no sense because once you learned someting, you will keep it in your mind forever(If you did it long enough). But perhaps you could make it such as this: if you are a "warrior",it´s very difficult for you to become a good mage(skillincreasing would take longer) and the same with mages. What does that sound like?

I agree to the decreaseing skills but over a period of time so you dont need to do it every day. Its like a sport if you dont practice for a while you get bad at it. It would be the same logic as if you are a fighter and you dont fight for a while you get out of shape.
