				C++ is the best for developing games, and it sounds like a fairly large game, so I say a quite good server is definately a must.  I also like the idea of a space shooter, I was even planning one a while ago (It never got very far).

				actualy, c++ is no longer used by the big gaming companies. most are switching to jave. have u played games such as Warcraft3? Diablo 2? The Sims? well, those are all java. you can do more with java, but its also harder to use. you can make you own desition, and, this is a download game, right? cuase i dont really wanna play a game i need to pay for.

				If you want to make it real easy, use Basic, but the amount of things you can do with it is a very small list compared to C++ and J++.

				i can't believe that diablo 2, warcraft etc. were written in java. java is a simply much to slow and ineffective. C/C++. that's it and nothing else (except you want to use assembler *g*).

				Add my vote for C++
C++ can do the graphics and TCP/IP a lot better and easier than any other language listed, IMO, and I just don't think that Java is up to par yet.  And Java games I've played so far have been found lacking.

				Warcraft 3 on java!? Are you crazy! C/C++/C# is the best and will be for next 2 years for sure! As for software Visual Studio.net is something!

				Early plans include an offline arena version to test your ship layouts and it is an execuble, Pay to Play might be in the future but its to early to say as of yet. and warcraft3 is IMPOSSIBLE to play if it was in java......but I heard the c++ is hard to learn and I got put on the programming team, hehe great....I cannot even program. Any sites to goto for c++ research?
