A cry to the Gods

Grant is found back at the shrine, deserted now, the people of town were inspired slightly by Elaralith and had indeed been there often; the majority of the town could care less; to them they had done their part, there was money to be made for them; they could find iron ores, they could tailor, they could farm, and the dwarves could get iron and coal so why should they stop working or training to be stronger just to pray to the gods?
But Grant Herion was still there because he hated the heat, and he hated to find the desert everywhere and the trees being so barren. He prayed to Nargun yet again tho his prayers had gone unanswered. Now he prayed to all the gods, alone.
"Gods of Illarion listen to my plead! There is one who walks amongst us that cuts down and takes your blessings! Twice you have given us chances to save our small island. Twice we have failed to do so. I know you are disapointed in us.
But the tree chopper works alone! He is a rouge amongst us! He is unwanted! Tell me his name! Tell the whole town his name and let us cast him off our island for eternity!
I tried to protect the trees, I sent 5 of my men to protect them. But they cannot be awake every hour of the day. They are but mortals, brave and courageous mortals, but mortals just the same. They could not watch over the seedlings and trees forever.
Tell me his name and give us another chance, a third chance, third and final to save our island. Please."
Grant finishes his prayer just as footsteps are heard behind him, or was it the wind? Perhaps a friend of his has come to pray to the gods.
