Everyone looks the same

Everybody looks the same in this game. Every human male looks just like any other human male. It would be cool if you could actually see the armor, cloths, and weapons on everyone walking around. And maybe even some sort of character creator, where you can choose hair color and a few other features before you play.

It is just not possible right now, and this has been proposes many times.

I suggested this too ages ago and was flamed to hell

I didn't realise it was so hard at the time. Because this game is 2d it would mean having a new animation for every possible movement in the game, and the animations contain many frames.

It is easier in 3d games because you load the armour over the frame of the character.

I think a set number of character models would be a good idea.
What I mean is like for humans you can have the one you have now, one in heavy armor, a peasant one, a mage one. This would make the every race looks the same thing kind of a little more colorful.

I wounldn't be expecting it any time soon, i realize it would mean a lot of work. But it is deffenatly somthing that should be done eventually.

Wouldnt it be a little apparent that this may have been suggested already..maybe even more than once?

Kizad, you do realise that you have now made over 100 posts, and not a single one of them have been warrented... all senseless rubbish... If I were you I would consider stopping spamming the boards soon.

Ok. If we have 5 different shirts And 5 different trousers. There are 25 Combinations of it. We have 9 diverent Races. That are 225 different Graphics. When i count the gender. It would be more then 400 Graphics.
And we have more then 5 shirts and trousers.

It would be cool if you could actually see the armor, cloths, and weapons on everyone walking around.
It would also be cool if we had magical unicorns to ride to Illarions moon...but things just dont happen because you think they are cool.

Besides you can "see" what people look like by pressing F12, if you didn't know...and you can add a coloured bar to each character by pressing F11, also.
It is easier to distinguish this way.

I'm sorry to say this but... in runescape you can see other people's armor, and also you can change what the character looks like. Why is this so easy for the creators of runescape to do and not for illarion?

Because the graphics of Runescape are extremely primitive and poor.

And I also believe that they get paid, whereas Martin and his team do not.

to make it clear, runescape's makers had different color clothes and skin color before they got the member crap thing..

As far as i know Runescape is a 3D Game, and not 2D like Illarion.
At 3D its more easy to make paperdolling.

Either way, I like Illarion Graphics better. Plus the spells in Illarion look cooler then in runescape. Only thing i like about runescape is the ability to turn the camera around so you have a 360* view.

I was looking at a posting by Hermie in the Graphics forum and he had made his own armor and was able to create it on a person. Someone wish his knowledge would be able to creat different cloths and things for the characters in illarion.

But you would have to to it for 2 genders, a load of animations, and 6 different races. Just because you can put a piece of armour on ONE image, doesn't mean you can do it for hundreds. I'd say just have a doubleclick 'Look' Feature, to see what they are wearing.

To be exact, 450 grafics. And than, if I remember right, there exist 16 grafics of each single race for the animation of walking in each direction, so there have been at least 450 x 16 grafics only for 5 shirts and 5 trousers. Do you like to make this?
And think of the client. It includes all grafics. With all this, the size will grow enormous.

And btw use the search function on the upper right corner, there you will find many old topics, asking the same and getting the same answers.

Well I'm not sure if this would owrk but, maybe when you are make you char. you pick form one one 4 graphics ex: there are 4 male human graphic's,you make them all look different but don't make one look a lot cooler than the others because ever one would just pick that graphic.
So let's see there are 5 race right now and two genders....that would be 40 graphic's.((warning I'm REALY bad at math)) hmm....still a lot but not as many if you do it the other way.

6 races. But lizards only have one image anyway, because you can't tell male from female with lizards, so 44 images.

@kizad Having each character have different graphics is just not technically possible as has been explained. But each character does have a different number (press F12). So you can identify that way.

you are exaggerating the amount of gfx needed. 5 frames per character, you know how long it takes to make an animation of this magnitute....not much. A frame that small would take about 1 minute or less to render all the frames with good quality. If all the gfx were made in a 3d program (which alot of them are not), I hear rigging in 3ds max is quite a pain though. It could be done with quite a bit of work, it would increase the client size, but gfx that small in jpeg format, even hundreds of gfx wouldn't be much.
