Ok i havnt gotten into illarion yet but i used to play. Goldsmithing i do not think there are enough items for gold smithing. Maybe you could make swords and armour out of gold. They would not be as strong and would deteirate quickly but they would be enchanted. Also for blacksmithing it would be cool if you could socket items to put gemstones in this could give them a elemental effect and ehance them.

I play Diablo 2 expansion set, Lord of Destruction

. Good game for about 6 months. And about Goldsmith armor and swords, wouldnt that be hard to get the skill good enough to be able to make swords and stuff.

There is no magical armor available to the players. You cannot see what you wear in this game, so I suggest you wait to play before you propose things.
Ok

As i said before i have played ALOT. Before they made the account request this was my favorite game i would play it alll the time. Also i'm not sure if it's still the same but goldsmithing was a very easy skill to master because gold is rare. Gold items would give magic abilities i think you need to re read what i said.

The skills are about 10x harder than when you played, if not harder.

Uhm... gold is so weak that you can sink your teeth into it just by biting into it lightly. How long do you think such a material would stand up to a sword?

This has been proposed a time before (maybe just on german?) - gold is to weak, it bends to fast. Also it is nothing for walking around, armors are too heavy.

Just because something was in Diablo 2 doesn't mean it's a bad idea.
Anyway, I think gold armour would be a nice idea, of course it isn't as strong, but you wouldn't actually use it to take damage. It would be more of a fancy show-off thing, like jewellery. Of course it should br extremely hard to make, difficult to come by and more expensive than a set of Grandparents
Just a thought.

Gold would be a very weak armor to wear. It would have to have a ton of coal and iron in it. Gold alone is weak.

About gold weapons, that's not something I would want to fight a deamon with,or a zombie at that rate.I mean not only would it be weak, but think of what your char. would be breaking no many people had the money to just destroy gold back then.....as a matter of fact most don't even have that kind of money now
@Armil Ed,Edd,and Eddy....What do i win.

@paul. Gold is called a soft metal, because compared to other metals it is soft. But it's still a metal and not that soft. Go get a gold bar and bite it paul. See what happens.

Seth, Bolt the goldbar into a wooden axeshaft, start swinging it around and see what happens.

My post wasn't refereing to gold's usefullness as a weapon or armor, it was referring to a post made by paul laffing, but as i was reading it i forget the second page of posts, therefore thinking pauls post was one of the last things said, my mistake, sorry it doesn't make sense now.
(Paul had said if you bite gold lightly your teeth will sink into it)

I know you could rolepley owning it, but then it would loose it's point. Everyone could then say, my plate armour is gold, which would be ridiculous. This kind of reminds me of people who want to play vampires etc. If we don't have it in game yet we shouldn't roleplay it. Little things would be alright, like roleplaying eating food off a plate. Things that are meant to be rare loose their meaning when they are so numerous.
(I think people have mentioned that in Runescape huge ammouts of people have Rune armour, the best and 'rarest' armour. It doesn't seem right)
Anyway, I can live without it

The most interesting thing about all of this is that you would be completely unable to move - if even just stand up. gold is several times heavier than both iron or steel.

Why not have lead armor? they had lead back then because they used lead sheeting for roofing on castles.

Lead is even heavier that gold. No movement possible.
Also, lead is highly poisonous and would most probably kill you.

I think that a lot of people should ask "why" instead of "why not".

I think gold armor would be a good idea, It could be used for cerimonial armor or such, they did use gold armor but not for wars or protection as it is very soft, at least it could be gold plated.

Once again read the first post gold armour would be enchanted making it different than regular. I also said in the first post that it would be weak wear out and not as affective.
the enchantments would do stuff like deal damage back when you are hit or steal life. therefore replacing the lack of effectivness and proteection good god i think hermie and berith were the only ones caught that. (read thuroughly. AND ONCE AGAIN I KNOW YOU CANT SEE IT I KNOW THEY MADE IT TEN TIMES HARDER I SAID I HAVE PLAYED BEFORE DID I NOT. gold armour can only be made by goldsmiths so goldsmiths could someday be as good or better than blacksmiths

Why should they be better than blacksmiths?
There are certain reasons stated above why gold armor is not so great idea. Furtherly, it doesn't become magical just simply because its made of gold, so its just a useless platemail made of gold unless stated otherwise.
Now, gold decorations would be fine by me, but the idea of having a golden platemail just doesn't sound too smart to me.

Goldsmithing needs expansion. It would be nice to make new things for the sake of luxury roleplay. Like combs, jewelry, eggs with combined gem stones, decorative weapons, and of course, more medalions and amulets.
