I've released a little tool called the Illarion Online Players Viewer some time ago. In fact I've finished the first version about two years ago, but it was only available to the Grey Rose until now.

I've decided to make it available to the public and just created a website for it. I hope you like it.. feedback is welcome :)

[Feb 9th] Version 2.91 released.

Sorry, I thought the description at the website is enough.
Basically it shows you the people currently playing Illarion. Another feature is that you can decode the names.dat file which stores the names and corresponding numbers. The numbers will get displayed next to the names in the online list. You may also add comments to players.
I think the rest should be explained well at the website.

I downloaded the program, it works nicely, but when I tried decoding the names.dat files for my characters, it always came up with errors. It lists a couple names saying they are not valid interger values. Is anyone else having this problem?

Could you give me more details.. are you sure you've set the path to the names.dat file in your Illarion directory correct?

I got the same problem as well. It says

'Sunny' is not a valid integer value.

then I get a list with some zeros '0' and on the bottom it shows two names, well it kind of does.

And I am sure that I set the path to the names.dat in the illarion directory folder.

Thanks! To be honest I wasn't able to test the program with the latest Illarion client (no account). If anybody would be so kind to send me his/her names.dat file I could try to solve the problem.

Please email to: bladefist@moo3.at

Another question: Did people who you already knew had to introduce themselves again after the last (few) client version(s)?

Yes all the people had to introduce again.

The program is quite nice, except for the names display. I will send you my names.dat !

Thanks Josefine, Aragon and Ghoun!
I think I'll be able fix the problem today :)

I've released version 2.6 of the Illarion Online Players Viewer. It now supports the names.dat format introduced with the latest Illarion clients. The source code has been completely re-written which should optimize the overall performance. Added some new graphics and other minor changes. I've tried to update the online groupfile too.. I hope I could include the most important guilds.

Please report if anything's not working properly now. When decoding the names.dat file it could happen that some names will appear more than once (that's what happened with Josefine's file). That's not an error in the decode algorithm, but content of the file if people introduced to you before and again after the format change of the names.dat file.

Another 2 errors have been found:

The program is looking for illonlinegroups.data instead of .dat. I've forgotten changing this back from debugging.
If there's only one player online the label "There is 1 player online.." doesn't get displayed correctly.

Bugs like that happen when you're rewriting the whole program, I apologise. Thanks for reporting the bugs to Crosis.
A new version will be out soon.

There are lots of new errors!

This morning I tested the 2.6.
Well, no player was online, a mix of some html tags and a few other crap stuff was listed. The second error was that the onlineviewer said that the illnamegroups.dat is no valid Illarion names dat file.
What did you do, Bladefist...? :D

That's the purpose.
The following information is stored in the names.dat file:
Number (+ Length of corresponding name) + corresponding name of all characters that have already introduced themselves to you.
If you try to open the file with notepad or a hex editor you'll only see the names and some symbols. With the Online Players Viewer you can have a look at the decoded file (=correct display of names and numbers).

I think his problem is that he is just shown 100 of the introduced persons in the onlineviewer but in his list there should be more than just 100.
