In the future, when Illarion leaves its alpha stage, will there be a character wipe. As due to the newish changes to the game, there is a great disadvantage to new players. Just a thought ...

character wipes are very dum.. they also cut off alot of the players. doing a bunch of work and then getting it wiped.

perhaps, but back when i started playing Illarion it was very easy to gain skills, and in little time you could become a great smith, and a really strong fighter/mage. So people joining illarion now, will have to work so much harder to reach the same point.

They'll wait till you catch up and then have a charachter wipe. Fair all round then.

What is your point Grenicus?
Fairness is not an issue here because competition for skill gain is not part of the game's objective.

then Dyluck, if skills aren't important you wouldn't mind a char wipe?

If skills are not important, then there is no nead for a character wipe. A character wipe would totaly go against the point of the game because everyone would lose their roles in the game.

I do mind a character wipe. Your conditional clause is not the same statement that I made.

So, forgive me, Dyluck, but when you spoke of fairness not being an issue, I've got an impression, that you, yourself, are not afraid of your character being wiped. Is it because you are sure yours will not be wiped, or because you don't mind gaining skill all over again in case it will be wiped?
Although skills are not the main point, I do not think that the concept of fairness is unimportant.
I am most certain that should any of us be cleansed and forced to start over, the first thought would be: "Not fair!".

So, our point of view depends on our current position, important to mind that.

I am neutral in the issue of wiping characters, since life goals of my character are not that hard to reach. He has no goals yet.

With respect.

What I mean, is that it is unnecessary to use a character wipe for the sake of fairness to have players starting at the same point in skills. This game is not about competition so therefore it is unnecessary for all new characters to have equal opportunity to match the capabilities of existing characters. A character wipe would only reduce the depth of the background of Illarion, reducing it's roleplay atmosphere.

Please use the search function, too for older discussions about a char wipe.
As stated by the programmers, a wipe will only made, if it is really necessary through the development of the game.
There were changes, which gave disadvantage for older chars (remember the change in the magic system more than one year ago) and changes for newer chars.
The game is in alpha, so many more changes will come, bringing some kind of advantage or disadvantage for existing chars against newer chars. But as long as the game is in progress, it doesn't make sense to have a wipe after each change to garantue a true fairness. Starting new each maybe two months doesn't make sense.

A charwipe would be bad, not only bad but awful we would loose so much history and everyone would have to build their character up again, and by building the character up I mean how people see and know your character.

A skill wipe for all characters I would not mind at all really, but getting an entire new world of people that noone know and that has no history would not do much for atmosphere.

Only thing I see coming that could cause some grief is when real classes are implented, I am fairly sure many like myself learned magic or druidry from reading around in the library and having no idea that could be done. If I was say "forced" into mage class when classes come it would really be a pain and I would gladly loose every skill just to be able to choose the class I want for my character. I do hope it can be solved smoothly though and that everyone gets a chance to pick their class when it becomes available. So anyhow keeping my fingers crossed for that :D
