Faldon VS Illarion - Er....pros-cons

Post by Master Gohan »

Well for some reason people have been(I overheard them) insulting people by saying that they are Faldon players! At first i didn't understand this.....although i know that in Faldon a HELLUVA lot people are freaking racists. But i don't otherwise know why that would be an insult......anyways ill provide the pros-cons in a totally neutral manner.

Illarion:

Pros-
Good engine(now)
Helpful GMs
Good Ideas
Well plotted areas
Added funny stuff(Sheep)
Ability to buy a house (although a awfully high price)
Ability to customize you character quite deeply

Cons-
Slow movement
Still early in development
No real point
No plotted quests
Unfinished Buildings
No weapon stats(by choice so people go to live with it)

Faldon:

Pros-

Excellent Engine
Quick Movement
Lots of items
Lots of professions
Well planned quests and Ideas
Far into final version
Lots of standing players

Cons-

Very cruel (and gay as hell) GMs (corrupt)
Bad atmosphere
Easily hacked
Racists are abundent
No one likes DBZ
Bad monster AI
Bug ridden

As you can see they are both good games (though Illarion shows a lot of promise) and neither should be put down. Also i did talk to the creator of Faldon and he told me that he would enjoy a rival online rpg.

I tried Faldon too, an in my opinion ist's absolutely unplayable. Just look at their website. You can't compare Faldon with Illarion.
The Faldon client needs a huge amount of diskspace and system ressources. Faldon is a bad copy of Ultima Online, Illaron tries to bes something new.
And Faldon has an extremly bad atmosphere, the world looks like a testmap and the other players normally don't talk to you. If you try to talk to them they'll try to escape as soon as possible.

In my opinion all of the Illarion Cons Gohan mentioned are Pros, and all of his Faldon Pros are Cons. He made a list of Illarion Pros and Faldon Cons.

If you are german-speaking and want to know something about different online RPGs, have a look at my website.

about the "well plotted areas" in Illarion - I was wondering about that. We still have no map editor and to create the curent map (the ground+trees, NOT the houses) wasa work of one hour drawing a bitmap graphics.

Seems like you have never seen Faldon, Bror. The map there is a combination of different landscapes that don't fit together at all.

Faldon is a game where people run around around screaming profanities and insulting people.
The game takes forever to download and then once youre done,
the game opens up and downloads 100 new files.
So, overall, Illarion is better, nicer, and more fun :)
(not to mention my favorite game to play)

Well i think you guys are a bit biased.
And Faldon is not a copy of Ultima Online it is a copy of Diablo---it has the similar code even though it in appearence doesn't look at such.
(Prefixes-Suffixes on weapons and items, although with the added "Professions")
In fact Illarion looks more like UO.
Also the reason you killed me in one hit (you didn't anyway) is because i didn't heal my self with Mes Pen or a potion(or fruit) so i was dead before you hit me.

I never played Diabolo, and diabolo is a different style of game, as far as I know. I don't think Faldon has the same code as Diabolo, cause Diabolo is a commerzial game, and I don't think Zer had the money to pay for the code of a commercial game.
To me Faldon looks very simmilar to UO. But what I wanted to say: Faldon doesn't have its own style, it seems to copy something. But Illarion tries to be something new.

It's diablo and the base code structure is the same.check if you like.See they took sections from the movement and parts of the ideas from it.
It doesn't really look much different then Faldon,Lost Swords,Caria or Tibia(Although Illarion has a MUCH better system)

Jepp, the URL Bror gave is the official webpage of Faldon. Hehe, bad for Faldon.
You could have found a link to Faldon on my webpage, the one I always promote in the sig. :)
