Hello all,
I just checked the server online list and found this name interesting: Frodo Scarlett as you can see the name "Frodo" isn't original and possibly the name "Scarlett" is from the book "Scarlett's Web"

Grant, the second name does not matter, by the sounds of things he is a halfling, Scarlett is a perfectly good last name, as for Frodo, does it really matter, His name isn't Frodo Baggins so leave him be.

It's Charlotte's Web, not Scarlett.

Last names can be/contain words, as long as they are not modern day words (computer, webhead, etc..) and are actually names and not sentances (Joe Imthebest is a no go).

Old time names very commonly contained someones profession, which is why there are so many "Smith"s in the US.

Norse names contained the father's name and son (Edward Ericson being the son of Eric, and his name may have been Eric Larson, etc...).

IRL I have known people with last names such as Whitehead, Ericson (Edward Ericson was a friend of mine who died from cancer at the young age of 27, and his' grandfathers last name was, in fact, Larson), Longstone, etc...

As for Frodo being the first name of a hobbit/halfling (let't not get into that argument again <g> ) just because there was a Frodo Baggins isn't good reason for me. Also, the rules REALLY don't say that you can't have the name of fantasy characters, but everyone frowns upon it and I personally think it should be added in black and white. But this would be unfair to current players with existing character names (Darlok, Muten Roshi, etc...).

And with dwarven names, most often you get a last name like Thurgrup Rockthrower or Nurm Suregrip. Something like that. and there are words in the last name but that doesn't make them illegal. Plus you have names like Seth, Andrew, and Brendan which are all common modern day names but still fit in the fantasy atmosphere. So if it fits, let it be.

Most of the names are not refused because they have a relation to anything, but because they do not fit with the most simply name rules, such as small initial letters, modern forms of elder names and stuff like "The Great" etc. These are more than 25 percent of the whole traffic (!)
In every other questionable case several opinions will be consulted, which of course costs our most valuable asset: time - like answering these endless repeated threads.
