NPC's

I believe that the Npc's should say something different, "use me with and item to sell". That kills the roleplaying. They should say something like "Welcome, you can sell stuff to me", or something around those lines.

Good Idea :D

and mabe they can say it in a medival england accsent like

"Do ye want to bard off thy items Sir/Madam?"

or something like that

Both Sentances are useless.

Hades, new Players have to know how to 'use' an NPC, so they have to 'say' it.

Stag, the NPCs cant tell if the Character is male or female.

hmm

why not make a working manual, that would explain it.

I just believe it kills roleplaying.

hades has a point, it really does kill the RP, but alas, darlok also has a point. We do not have a working english manual, so those who want to buy an item would be at a total loss if it said "wanna buy an item?"

But then they would just have to ask a player, and then they can tell them ooc. Then once they know its alright, there isnt that many new players around anyway.

dosnt one of the F buttons tell you anyway? i know it tells you how to cast magic.

idea

great idea, make it one of the F buttonw. Or just write a working manual. But in the mean time it is killing RP.

As far as people not knowing what to do....they should use the account waiting time to browse through the link pages and study the tutorials on those pages. With the time they have to wait they should be "Illarion experts" by the time they get in.

For the GMs. When you sell something to Eliza she says.......
"I was pleasured to .........."
For proper English she should say........
"It was a pleasure to ............."

Guys....Do you really think working on puting something new on the F buttons, changing what the NPC's say, and writing an English manual is worth a very small detail in RolePlaying when you could just imagine Eliza saying that. Imagination is a very important detail when it comes to RolePlaying. You should try it some time.

@Gerard
This coming from someone who thinks that people in medievil times could make glass squares of multiple colors and somehow bend them and fuse them together into the shape of a bottle without the different colors blending together.

Why not just use the bottles that are already in the game and use your imagination that there are a bunch of colors on it or imagine that a special potion is inside. You should try it sometime.

(remember....Everybody likes a little A$$....nobody likes a smart A$$.)

note this is a proposal board, and I was making a proposal. And changing it would have an effect on the game play. I buy a lot from the NPC's and sell a lot to them too.

Big mistake in my opinion. The aim of roleplay should be that you trade with other players, not with NPC´s.

It were better, if you reduce trading with the "system" to minimum.

To much NPC´s kills the roleplaying...

Back to the game manual/tutorial idea. Why doesn't a player put one together? As the GMs seem to have their hands full, they may never get around to it. I'd make one myself, but I haven't been playing nearly long enough to know what everything does.
Using the search function, I managed to find:
http://members.lycos.co.uk/illakeep/manual.html
No offence to whoever made it, but it isn't fantastic.

NPC trading

Sorry, no one sells me silver for 250 gold. But I was making this proposal in responce for being around the NPC so much.

When the NPC says, "I was pleasured to do business with you," I always think it sounds dirty. ^^

That's exactly the impression I've always got.
Maybe Eliza is actually a hooker.

hello??

ok, my idea was to change the "Use me with an item to sell" not the "I was pleasured to do business with you" saying.

you are getting a bit of topic there. And it should not say NPC it should say shopkeeper, or something like that.

Why not make the NPC's one and put her behind the counter?

Posted: Sun Jun 22, 2003 7:44 pm
by Darlok
Maktan, why dont you use your Brain a bit?

Why is there no NPC behind a Counter?
Simply because you can only use "Items" next to your Character.
And at this Moment we have to "use" NPCs, therefore there cant be an Obstacle beetween you and the NPC.

Why do we have to "use" the NPC? (this would be your next Sentance, admitt it)
Because there is currently no real Script for an NPC.
They should react on "Voice Commands" of your Character, or with some other System.

Why not only one NPC?
I think thats because of the Code that is currently used.

Use Item + Eliza = Destroy Item + Gain Gold

Use Human + Choose Item = Destroy Gold + Gain Item

All these Inforamtions might be out dated and no longer valid.

Then think of my proposal as a future to do list, i'm not expecting immediate action.
