hmm i was thinking, most of us english speakers dont speak german, so, i was thinking maybe somebody could teach "ingame". of course in game i would fork over the cash, hey i would be learning the "old" language so to speak. I really like learning other languages and i am already quite knowlagable in french. From looking at some things i can tell some of the concepts are the same. Maybe its a good chance for somebody german aspiring to be a teacher.

Don't you think someone teaching German ingame would be very OOC, and not at all appropriate as good RP? Not to mention highly detrimental to the RP atmosphere...if you want to learn German (an RL language) why don't you learn it in RL?

Well, i know a few who learned german ingame.
not good but it works.

To make the communication easier is an easy task if you ask me. They simply have to make the chat box/event box easier to read.
And use thicker letters so you will easier see what's happening. And perhaps different colours depending on what happens.
For example, if someone talks.. red colour, if someone yells, blue color.. etc etc.

1:No it wouldn't how would have people done it in medieval times then?
2:IRL it wouldn't be fun seeing you got to listen to stupid teachers and stuff but here you can learn it by "friends" mainly

no kidding, but elaralith, if teachers were payed. it would be a new, non bloodbath type of skill. I really dont see how it could ruin rp. Unless of course there is a dwarf or lizard teaching, might be a little odd then. I was thinking probobly an elf.

I find that if you log on, and none of your in-game friends are about, if you just hang about where Germans are talking, then you can pick up some basic Grammar and Vocabulary. I can already hold up a conversation in German about fische and Holz...

And I can say Splash and beer in german now!

Well, first of all "Teaching" is no Skill.
Second of all "German" is no InGame Language, but Gro'bul called it the "Old Language".
I personaly call English "Common" and German "Ancient" in Game.

Translator and Teacher would be a good Job for a Character, if he (the Player) speaks both languages fluently.

well, i didnt really mean "skill" as in a skill on your menu, i meant profession.

I always think it's unfair that English is seen as the 'common' tounge, because the game is German and everything. I think learning in game is fun.

The problem is that there is neither a land called Germany nor one called England on the world of Illarion.

Probably since English is named after England, and German after Germany. As Adano Eles said.

German wouldn't be TOO tough to learn, I hear, if you already speak English.

And same goes for the German speakers. After all, English was a Germanic language first...

Germanic languages does not have anything to do with todays german. Almost all languages in europe is germanic..
