I've only recently started playing illarion.. I'm new, but I've got some things ironed out....
I just wanted some suggestions or tips.
I am currently developing one skill.. carpentry.. I'm hoping to make arrows and bows for myself.
I'm wondering if there is another easier skill to learn that someone could suggest?
Also I like to build my character up as one who uses brain over muscle..but can still fight well when need be. Someone who is stealthy, but not a thief. So any suggestions are welcome.. and anything you'd like to tell a newbie about the game.

Thats the wrong way for that game. Ask yourself is that the right job for my char, would he have fun with it. And not is that the easyest way to improve my skill.

If you dont want a "specialized" Character, than simply distribute your Points averange at the Attributes.
Is this the Answer you want?
Like Fedaykin said, Skill-Gain is not, will never, be a Target here. If you play this way, you will loose Intrest very soon.

well depends on what you call easier, most all skills are about the same according to how hard it is to make a final product.

well see.. heres the problem.. without better skills, the less chance you are to get some good cash, and then the less chance of getting good armour and weapons, then you cant fight for crap.
so, it seems all you can do is build skills.. sell the products, buy things..
and MAYBE come across someone who wants to GIVE you plate armour.. which is not common..
So thats why it seems like its all skill building....
I was told that blacksmithing and carpentry is really hard to develop... but other things like tailoring and baking are probably easier.
So anyways, i cant see how skill building is not almost 85% of the game..without skills, you really cant do crap all.
But i'm trying.. its not going to make me quit..
i think i'm do tailoring with carpentry.

Learn what Roleplaying means.
This is not Tibia, Runescape or another Hack n' Slay.
You dont even need Armor and Weapons in this Game.
Stay a "Commoner", a Baker, a Peasant, a Tailor, a Beggar if you want.
Pick a Role, Fighters are not what we need here. We alread have plenty of them.

Man.. I know what roleplaying is..
sheesh..
i tried to sell wood, but no body wants it
i tried to sell bread rolls, but nobody wants it.
geez...
I can talk and talk, but it gets me nowhere with any of the experienced players.. cuz frankly. who wants to deal with newbies?
no one.

First of all,
this game is still Alpha, we are only testing it. Never forget that.
Because you are a Newbie, does not mean nobody will trade with you. Look at all the Tailors, they have problems with getting rid of thier Clothings too.
Look at the Masterblacksmith, noone will buy thier Weapons.
Now you ask why?
Because there is not real Economic-System in this game.
And to come back to Roleplay:
Roleplaying is talking, talking, talking.

Yeah, I've been playing Tibia over the last few weeks, Now that's a dull game right there. You Go out, kill stuff, come back, sell stuff you've found along the way, use the money to buy a new spell/weapon and do it all over again. The only other options you have is to start a shop of some kind or kill people instead of creatures.
This game looks much better. I just hope they start accepting accounts again soon so that I can start playing!

armor is about the most useless thing in this game in my opinion, the only thing armor (besides shield and parry skill) can block completely is flies.

Armor is for protection: Decreasing the damage from attacks...not for helping you totally evade attacks.

good point, but, i noticed it depends on your agility as well with armor. DUH, but i thought this was only with parry skill. I guess not, just thought maybe some noobs had the same thinking.
