The NPC for buying things is clearly a man but why is his name is Eliza?
Unless Eliza is a man's name too and I never knew it??

How do you know that he is clearly a man? I never saw a difference between male and female lizards - did you?

Oh, sorry, I made a mistake with the scripts. Clearly the seller male. Changed that.

Can you make it so that only the person selling things to the lizard hears those words?
Because it doesn't make sense when someone else is selling things but you see the words "Eliza was pleasured to do business with you". Also it spams the screen when someone is selling many things.

They spam the screen too much, even if those words don't appear.
@Bror: Can we make duct tape, so we can tie it around the NPC's mouth?
Hey, that's a good quest idea, get someone to quiet the NPC's, that ought to be hard!

Actually, Eliza the Lizard (!?) is the only one with a name...
unless Bror just put one in in the past hour or so.

@Dyluck:I think it makes sense, that other people herar too, what the vendor says to another person. I would be surprised if they don't hear it.

"Eliza was pleasured to do business with you"
That's not something the NPC says, it's just how the NPC feels. People standing on the roof or outside the shop or not looking at the NPC doesn't know that Eliza feels pleasured.

well i think it is something like: Eliza: Eliza was pleasured to do buisness with you
or something of that type
NPC Names

Then it would be-
Eliza: I am pleasured to do business with you
Not to mention maybe-
[NPC Eliza]: Use me to sell something

Perhaps Elisa enjoys speaking of herself in the third person. Perhaps English -its Englush on my client- isn't the lizards first language and so doesn't understand the mechanics well enough to use "I." -- Just a thought

No, it was changed so that the human is Eliza now. But maybe Eliza is German?

Oops, sorry Erdrick, that came out wrong!
#me bonks himself on the head.
The lizard is named Eliza and the human currently is nameless. I guess i just mis-interpreted everyone's posts

ok leave it alone, eliza is pleasured to do business with you, in english it should be *Eliza is pleased to do busniness with you* but that is beside the point, im very happy that the npc actually talks to us now, and she doesn really say 'eliza is ....blah blah, its more of a conformation of a transaction, Elize, the npc, is pleased to do business with you, the merchant. its more of a personal action that you see, not hear. at least that is what i interpret from this statement. if im pleased to do business with someone, i would say, Thank you _______, it was a pleasure to do business with you. But they say Eliza is pleasured to do business with you, so its directed at you, the seller and thus not as hard to program, they dont have to determine the name of the player each time, and that is good enough in my opinion. so stop complaining. sorry im in a bad mood, but im right

These actions and #me statements are taken from a 3rd person point of view, so it doesn't make sense when a person sees "Eliza was pleasured to do business with you" on his screen, especially if the person is not the one who sold to Eliza, but I guess the programmers don't care about this little stuff.

Wow, I always wondered how art critics elaborate over modern pictures where the artist splashed some paint on a paper.
Now that you guys write little essays about elizas one sentence talk, I understand it

I always wondered why those critics go crazy over messes...
@Dyluck: Are you glad or mad about the situation so far?
I think the whole thing isn't worth arguing about anymore...
I mean, it's 1 line (although spam-related) and Eliza JUST might
be a man's name (although I've never seen it before myself)

Nobody's arguing. It's a discussion, that's how improvements are made.
@Erdrick: I'm unhappy that Bror either fails to understand the mistake or just didn't bother to respond to it.
By the way did I mention 'carpentery' is supposed to be spelled 'carpentry'?

@Dyluck: I don't fail to see the mistake, but I can't change it, since I don't programm the server. So its either this text or no text.

The way it is now is FINE, at least it is better than the second option: NOTHING.

Oh quit sucking up, it just causes even more spamming at the shop.

In real life, do people simply hear things that are adressed to them? No, they hear all things, so if so many things are blocked out, the game loses it's reality. Perhaps we should block out on-screen messanging all together, that would ELIMINATE spamming, but would that get us anywhere? The object of the game is not to be perfectly user-friendly, it is roleplaying. Besides, do people in real life usually stand in noisy areas? Then why must people in Illarion stand near the shop? Perhaps if the depots created a message or something, that might get bad, but this is just ONE NPC that does this? Is this not an over-reaction? And no, I am not "sucking up", I am just expressing my opinion.

Arghh read the other posts. How many times do I have to tell you that "Eliza was pleasured to do business with you" is a statement, not something that the NPC actually says to you? It's these statements that spam the screen, not actual conversation in the rpg. You know how nobody else sees 'you' statements like "You can't carry that much"? It's the same principle. Only 3rd person perspective statements like "<name> forms silent words with the lips" are seen by everyone.
No, this discussion isn't about whether or not one line affects the game, it's just about whether how it's used is correct or not, and if you think it's not important, nobody said you had to join the discussion, which was already over anyways.
And don't give me that shit about "The object of the game is not to be perfectly user-friendly, it is roleplaying". You know very well that I know that better than most people already.

Dyluck, I think Bror sees the problem. It isn't all that bad, really, but it is becoming a problem when the NPC's stand there and talk incessantly, and Spam. I understand advertisement, but the NPC's are overdoing it a little. Maybe he will change it by next version, you never know!
For now, just remember that this is THEIR game, and you are yelling at them...

I won't concider that yelling at me. There are other posts where people are yelling, but they usualy use upper case letters and harsh words. Dyluck just seemed frustrated, that I haven't reacted and changed the text. This is because it would require me to change the server code, which is none of my business and can only be done with the release of a new version.
The reasons why the NPC's spam advertisements is, that the buy/sell system isn't that obvious. If you don't have an old player online to tell you, wou won't figure it out without the advertisements.
The name of the NPCs is coded into the server, so I can't change it as fast as the scripts. If I let the NPC talk directly, it would be something Like "[NPC] says: I am pleasured to do business with you."
I wanted the NPC to have a name, so I had to include a name in the sentence itself. If you have an idea, for a short text, that includes the name and is grammaticaly perfect, write it here.
