While looking through a dictionary (don't ask why :D ), I happened to come upon the word nix. It means "a water sprite of Germanic folklore". Another definition in another dictionary said it was half man, half fish. I was thinking, maybe they could be water creatures that can attack you when you're fishing? By the way, it comes from the root word nihhus, German.

Normally a "Nixe" is half woman - half fish in the german or nordic mythology. They don't wear clothes and like to attack poor man with their feminin attributes, seducing him down in the water, so that he get drowned.

Reminds me of sirens. except part fish instead of part bird.

I don't see how your idea would work to well. I mean, having water creatures thta could attack you would be neat. but for practical purposes i don't see how the game could incorporate that. I mean would it be like if your standing next to the water, every so often a creature just appears beside you having come out of the water? Doesn't seem to realistic and in my opinion would get very boring and annoying after the novelty of it wore off.

I would much rather have creatures that live in the water and when you agitate them them they come after you :D even onto land.

YES,thats a good idea, because if they could only stay in water ranged weapons would massacre them.

I didn't mean stay in the water. I meant that they would suddenly appear beside you on land. But after the novelty wore off it would become extremly annoying.

How do you propose one agitates them? Fishing?

Provide the Garfics and ask if a Nixe might be added in the Game.

I don't like the idea of summoning monsters by doing something like fishing.
Craftsmen should not have to be fighters, and should not have to take a fighter with them for protection at such simple thinks like fishing.

Hey, what about sharks? If fishers didn't bring weapons or know how to fight, they could have been killed in any number of ways, pirates, norsemen, sharks, sea serpents :D . But I was thinking that they could be like flies, except on the water only.

Nix sound like mermaids and mermen to me, or are they different?

Or is it a mix between a mermaid and a siren?

I thought harpies were part bird, and sirens and merfolk were part fish. As for the nix idea, maybe there could be a water darker then the normal fishing water, this would be "deep" water and that's where nixes would hide. Maybe there could be an undersea cavern which would be underground and only have small patches of ground, everything else "deep" water. There would be several entrances, each to a differen part of the cavern.

Read Homer's odyssey. Sirens are part bird. I heard that harpies are too, but I have never found any research to back that up.
