I am having a tad of trouble thinking this through, but here i go
Some items, such as an axe or saw, you should need to have a certain skill in more then one vocation. an axe and saw can be made by blacksmithing. but they also have woodoen components. you should have to carpenter the handle, smith the blade, and some combining skill to put them together and make them stay together. i know that there are a few items that this would aply for. Battle staff(with blade), scythe, a fishing rod(the wheel thingy, the string, and the wooden part) are some examples.

But if making a saw effected your blacksmithing and carpentry skills, doesn't that mean that it would use up a log and metal?

Personally i think this much to complicated as pretty much EVERY item in illarion is not just made by ONE ingrediant.

This has been discussed before.

Blacksmith will provide the Saw-Blade and the Carpenter will provide the Woddenparsts.
One of them need to put these two together to get a saw.

But as i mentioned, this has been discussed before.

This might actualy improve the economy, items will be harder to make since it requires two skills or more now!! this makes items harder to make and there for the price would go up!!
