Mining in Caves

Since it would be easier to find precious gems and such in an underground (and more untouched) location, I propose that the type of "rock" ground in caves yield a higher chance to find rare gems and gold.

Perhaps mining in cave would require a pickaxe`?

If it was possible to mine the walls of a cave, then that should require a pickaxe... The walls of a cave could give better items, but take more strength to mine...
Maybe pickaxes could be used to break up rocks before digging them out...

It would be great if they started as small tunnels, and when you mine a wall for ages it would dissapear, thus allowing us to mine like a real quarry.
These would have to be special mining walls so that people dont just mine every wall away. The mine would only expand to a certain point, just to allow us to have some fun breaking them till the mines become fully sized (and we could say, 'we made these mines with our barehands and pickaxes' to newer people). You would have to mine say .. 2000 raw resources from a wall before it dissapeared (including iron coal gold gems etc).
