Why doesn't Eliza buy some items?
There are a lot of items that I have tried to sell to Eliza and she will not take them. The book of Pen is just one example.
Shouldn't she be willing to buy any items even if it is only for 1 gold?
Or maybe 1 gold for every 5 of an item for example.

Because you can pick up books/raw meat/leather. She only buys things you have to work to get. aka, you have to plant cabbage seeds to get a cabbage so she buys cabbages. Leasts thats why i think.

You have to kill something before you can pick up the book, leather, etc.
I would consider that work.

but then why does she buy shomked ham from killing pigs and smokeing the ham?
*wonders*

Well, smoking the ham is work, isn't it?

guess so.........then how come she doesn't buy thread....it si work to cut the insides up

Posted: Sun Mar 16, 2003 7:03 am

Because it sells for so little she can't make a decent profit on it.

ahhhhh but when you seel ham it is for 2g each and you buy thread at 2g each so it should be at a low price of 1g each......if this would to happen it would help out the newbie of the land alot

not many newbiess kill mummies for thread, most can't even kill mummies. i like the way you have to work to get something instead of picking something off a tree and selling it for any money.

Here you say it is not much work.
Bumbol Woodstock wrote:not many newbiess kill mummies for thread, most can't even kill mummies.
Here you say that it is hard work.
I know that some items would be worth less than 1 gold. So maybe if you have 5 of them she would buy 5 of them for 1 gold.
My point is, as long as she give them to the human to sell for a profit, why not buy them.
As far as just picking stuff off of trees, that stuff could have a really low value. Such as 100 cherries = 1 gold.

i saw newbiess cant kill a mummy cause their to weak so they wouldn't get thread, I never said it was hard.

As an example, the book of Pen sells for 200 gold.
Why wouldn't Eliza want to buy it for maybe 100 gold?
She could make a 100% profit!

You can easily pick up a magic book pen by killing a mummie...to have Eliza pay even 50 gold for such little work would upset the economy. What would be the point of working when just killing a mummie would bring so much? In older posts you will be able to read that Eliza also pays for so little because it is not wanted for there to be inflation which would cause the value of gold to decrease.

What about buckets, you make those by working hard, you cant even sell them
Carpentry is a rare skill now. Its is so hard to get a reasonable amount of wood to gain much experience in carpentry. which is why I dont bother anymore. I know carpentry is really easy, just hard work.
I think Eliza should at least buy glass bottles even if it is for 2gp each. She ripps you off on bottles and does not even buy any. Pen books should sell for like..10gp since they are easy to get. NEWBIES CAN'T GET THEM BECAUSE FIGHTING IS SO HARD. Just because you think it is easy doesn't mean that its easy for everyone else. I feel so sorry for them

yes i do take some pitty on the noobs

but if you spend your time and money wisely (besides the fact that you dont start with any) you can easily start making money. do hired labor or favors for people until you have enough money to buy some armor or buy some tools or something.
as the saying goes "you cant make money unless you spend money"

I find it amazing that Eliza doesn't buy pen books, yet the human sells them. Where does he find them? I got it! They are magic books, right? Maybe he makes them
magically.

But i am serious. Where does he get them?

well i have seen newbies attack him and Eliza and nothing happens to them.....they are like very very strong or something.....so maybe he goes out and kills a couple of mummies himself and gets some books

I will answer this with one of my previous posts.
Another solution could be that the book doesn't get dropped by mummies as often.

Crocket whats your problem with just making money with skills? You seem to just want to get money by picking up things and selling them.

I AM using skills to make money.
Isn't fighting one of the categories of skills?
I am using my skill in fighting to get the items.
(and to rid the world of evil)
One person's skill might be mining.
Another person's skill might be fishing.
My skill is fighting.

One of the points of illarion is that it focuses on not having players get money from hunting, but be able to do so through peaceful methods like professing a craft. Having hunting bring not so much money in is a way to encourage that, and I doubt it will change. If you want to make money as a hunter try killing pigs to get their leather; many a tailor will purchase such pelts for a high price.

@Elaralith,
I see your point but the whole roleplaying history behind my character is someone who wants to rid the world of evil. Killing zombie's would fit this role better than hunting pigs.
Instead of having my character, who is a fighter, learn some craftmanship type skill to make money he should make money by killing evil monsters, because that is his chosen profesion. I would not expect a tailor to kill monsters for money just as a fighter should not try to make clothes for money.

Crocket, having your character roleplay a warrior that kills zombies is perfectly fine, but don't expect to make as much as a craftsman/merchant who has works on a craft and produces desired items!

Producing a desired item is exactly my point. I may not produce an desired item but a desired RESULT. (ridding the world of evil)

@Crocket
If this is the case then you should be paid by the world and not by Eliza. She is a businesswoman and cares little for your good deeds. She is trying to make a profit for her business endeavors and not trying to give away her money in thanks of your deeds. If you wish to be paid for ridding of the world of evil then you should A) fight against monsters that carry more money with them, or B) have citizens pay you for your duties to them, or C) both. Eliza should not pay you for what you've robbed from the bodies of monsters any more than she does already. You should get paid for killing the vile monsters, not for picking up what their mortal bodies carried.

We are getting away from the whole point.
I do not wish to be paid by Eliza for the deeds I do but for the items I get.
Why does she buy cooked ham which is a lot less valuable than a magic book which she will not buy? And before you say that about 1 in 3 mummies drops a book, then I say make the books less common but let Eliza buy them.

Eliza is a very picky trader that has a fear for anything to do with magic and dangerous wizards. Like most traders she doesn't understand magic and as a result fears and distrusts it. That is why she does not buy or deal with magic books. Answered your question yet?

by Crocket
That's the first time I've heard that one. If that is true then that explains the books but what about the cherries, apples, etc.
I know they are common so maybe they could be worth 1 gold for every 100 or something.
When other towns are put in maybe the traders in the other towns will buy some of the items that Eliza will not.
Posted: Mon Mar 17, 2003 4:59 am
by Elaralith
@Crocket Of course in the future with other towns there may be other tailors who buy the items that Eliza does not

...but then who knows? When other towns are implemetnted perhaps getting a magic book will not be as simple as killing a mummie or even a monster...
As for Eliza not purchasing fruits...Eliza is a trader and she considers cheap fruits below her and not worth her time. She would not gain much profit by purchasing fruits for even one gold and having to sell them for two gold. Eliza values profit the most trader that she is and always does money flicker foremost in her mind. Everything she does must make an amazing profit. Remember that when you sell to her!
Note: Tailors like me are currently boycotting Eliza for her low prices for our items. Perhaps by doing the same, Crocket, you could get her to not be so greedy!
