New Items

Greetings!
I would like to propose for the implementation of several new items. Currently in illarion there are armors that can smithed to protect a person from physical attacks. What I would like to propose is for their to be items that protect a person from magical attacks, and in effect lower the effect of magics just as armor lowers the effectiveness of physical attacks! These are the items I propose to protect against magic: Wizard hat, Wizard robe, Magical Mantle, Wizard cloak, Wizard Cape. Just as there is Knight shield, Knight helmet, Knight shoes etc. etc. I propose also that these items be produced by tailors, as Wizard hats are already. Suggestions regarding the names of the items (wizard robe etc.) would be especially welcome. If anyone can think of better names for the new items please post and that can be discussed.

I like the idea of magic resistant armor or clothing, but I don't like the idea of tailors making it. I can't see why cloth would provide any protection against magic. I think it would be more reasonable for a mage or priest to enchant an item.

Wizard hats are already made by tailors; it makes perfect sense to me for other such items to be made by them too.

I'm fairly certain wizard hats are just hats, and have no magical powers at all.

enchant an item, then you could enchant armor and ruin the whole point of this proposal. then worriors could be invulnerable to everything.

That would be wrong, Elaralith.
I dont see a reason why a Tailor would be allowed to create magical enhanced Items, like Korwin just pointed out.
Tailors may provide the "Basics" but these finaly need to be enhanced by magicans.
The only logic possibilty for me would be, that the Tailor first has to obtain special magical materials(magical Thread or Cloth), from which he could tailor Clothings.

@Korwin If they were normal hats they wouldn't be called wizard hats.
@Loki I disagree. Smiths can create Amuletts without needing a mage to 'enchant' it. Yet an amulett is still magical item that offers protection. No I think tailors should definitely be able to create Wizard hats etc. by themselves. When warlocks are implemented the enchantments they cast can be additions to the items not a necessity. The enchantments could add additional bonuses like making the item wear and tear slower.

And who says that the amulet that is smithable has some 'powers?'
Well, Do you have a neclace or amulet, Elaralith? Just as in real life, (Lucky charms ect.) the amulet has powers only if you believe that it has powers

I do not know, but i am guessing that you'll have to wait till the next client.
Yes wizard clothing need to provide more protection against magic, they are worth crap currently and they dont do anything. Maybe...barely.

@Caranthir Test it out in game...amulett has powers to protect ( I won't say more to ruin it for you).
And following from what has been said, perhaps we should force all smiths to require a mage to "enchant" for them every time they need to make items like say rings (magical powers), amuletts etc. etc. I'm sure the smiths will be really happy about that

Perhaps you didn't think that it is the gems that posess the magical powers, not the rings. So therefor all the magical power is there already, and doesn't need re-implementation by a mage.
Who is this 'We' you speak of?
Perhaps you are speaking of yourself in third person?
..Me, I and myself..

you could use my mage's crystal to enchant, protect a person or yourself or as a quest item

I think sorcerers should be able to magically store their hate and anger into a gem or something, and if you take it you become a toy to their will untill you die!

Hmm good idea, I know a few greedy people I would like to do that to

Too many ways to abuse this.

@Caranthir Guess what? The cloth and materials tailors will use to make these items for mages will have inherent 'magical' qualities as well, just like the gems do.

And I quote: "So therefor all the magical power is there already, and doesn't need re-implementation by a mage." That is all that I will say concerning your fears about tailors not having the 'magic' it takes to make these items that will be the mage equivalent of knight armor.

I agree that we need clothing and armor that will have some magic resistance.
But I also believe that ANY magical device (clothing, amulets, rings, etc.) must be enchanted by a spellcaster of some sort weather it be a wizard or priest.
The materials to make the item (thread, leather, gems, etc.) could be enchanted before the item is even made, or the item could be enchanted after the making.
But I believe that somewhere in the process a spellcaster (wizard, priest, monster, god, etc.) has to be involved.

Fear?
What is this fear you are speaking of?
But, a piece of cloth or thread can hardly be compared to a gem.

Maybe to dwarf such as you a cloth cannot compare with a gem.

But for the rest of the world that is not the case.
