Giving a person full control over their thread

In the future, I propose that it be possible for the creator of a thread to delete any posts which they do not deem appropriate or constructive.
Recently the number of spam posts has increased in the boards and I say that the creator of threads in Proposals, General and Technical be given full control over the content of their thread.
Thank you for the time. Constructive comments only-
Brendan

A very good idea, and it will keep the forum size smaller.

Yes, and it would also spare the reader time from ploughing through tons of spam. It would also give the GMs extra time to spend on the game as opposed to deleting things on the board.
In an ideal world such a situation would not be needed, as all people would not post spam, but this is not an ideal world. So...?

This could result in censorship of others ideas. If you make a post and want something implemented because you obviously think it's a good idea or you wouldn't have posted it, then with this feature you could delete all posts that shined a negative light on your idea. Because of this the person reading the proposal section would see only positive posts in favor of an idea and would assume the majority of the players liked the idea and could implement it when in fact the majority didn't agree with the idea but their posts to that affect were deleted. Forum moderation should be left in the hands of a neutral party and that's what it is now. When something becomes out of control the forum is locked or the posts are deleted. When someone becomes repetitive in their nature of spaming the person is warned and then their forum account is banned, as it should be if they continue. This does cause more work for some people who are in charge of the forums but that is what they are here for (voluntarily I know) and it is the only real solution to the problem of spaming the boards. I'm sorry but this is a nice idea on how to get rid of spam but it would create many more problems than solutions. Censorship would not solve what it was intended. You may say that there should be reasonable people that would make posts and use their own lenient discretion on which posts to delete but you know as well as I do that this would not be the case. There are a few people who like to argue back and forth and are not easily convinced that they are wrong and this would allow them to always be right when they are in the vast minority in thinking so.

I agree with Niniane, except you should be able to do it on the RPG board.

I'd be happy as long as we could delete our own posts.

Oh, there is one bad thing about this I have just realised ... we all know there are some not-so-sensible people who cruise the boards, and it would be very ridiculous so that they change a post in their thread to say something like 'I am a fool' on someone else's post just because they dont like them.

I don't like that ideal because some people would just delete the posts that did not agree with their original post. I'm not saying you would Hermie but some people would.

It would certainly help keeping threads to the point, but of course people could delete opinions they do not like.

For all the boards except the RPG board I agree with Niniane. The moderation should be left to the illarion staff as it is now. But for the RPG staff control in the hands of the creator of the thread is reasonable I think. This would prevent people from affecting the story in a way the creator did not want it to be affected. For example, if in a story there was a stranger and then this player-controlled character posted that "he killed the stranger";the creator could have had a whole story planned involving that stranger, and would have been ended because of some unthoughtout act of another.

I should add that I agree that if it were possible to add control to the RPG board it would be a good idea. The negative draw back would be if a person deleted a post they didn't like but in this case if the one who posted the initial thread were a good role-player they would only do this to something out of the most extreme necessity and if they were a bad role-player then of course it wouldn't matter, so therefore there would be only a minute possibility that a problem could arise. The bad role-player's story could end or go just about any way they wanted and the decent role-players in illarion wouldn't have to concern themselves with the rubbish that makes it's way onto that board anyway, and if they made a post on it that was deleted, so be it. It would be non-existent in their minds and the board admins could handle the deletion of the very poor ones themselves and save some space on someone's server.
This idea has very few negative aspects and many more positive ones and in my opinion is a great idea. To allow complete control over ones own threads in the RPG section.

@Brendan
Bad idea, there are some people who already think, that since they made the topic, they would have some right to end the discussion in it whenever the discussion is going in way they do not want to.
@ Elaralith
This COULD work in the RP-board, but I still a bit sceptic towards the idea.

@Caranthir It has already been pointed out that giving people full control of their threads in boards other than the RPG board would lead to biased discussions. Of course, in the RPG board that is not an issue because what is being discussed has not impact whatsoever on anything technical. That is why I think having people retain control over their threads in the RPG board would work. Also it would be remove a major workload from the moderators. And they would not have to always edit posts in the RPG board that are "occ" so much.

I agree with Brendan. I believe we should be able to control our own threads no matter which forum-type we post in.
