@Nilo A guild that teaches magic is fine. A guild that is for the sole purpose of allowing their members to be super-powerful is not, as that would be powergaming. What you said about having the members work on their spells and their magic resistance borders dangerously on the no-powergaming rule...
Other than that good luck to this guild!
May this guild spread Elara's Wisdom and Knowledge!

Thankyou Elarith, for presenting me with this information. I will be sure we don't powergame, and i won't do this for the sole purpose of raising powerful mages. The purpose of this is to help get some people on a good start with their magic, and to help raise money for the hobbiteers. If you want to join, just post something up here, and ill be sure that you are in. We need some people that are okay at magic to join. Don't hesitate. If you have any questions, go ahead and ask!~Nilo

let me get this straight. we practice our magic and magic resistance and help fund the Hobiteirs. the magic part sounds like Power Gaming. yo need to give it a purpose, some rym and reason.

Well, drogla, we do have a reason. And, it's not just that. We help newbies get on their feet, as well as help INTERMEDIATE people too. I'm going to say this again. WE ARE NOT POWERGAMING!!!!!!!!!!! We are not going up to bugs and let them just hit us over and over while we heal! we are simply casting spells against other people! How else do you get magic resistance?!!!!

I´m a mage but I´m frighten about your guild.
Wich destination are you following?
And it is also to be frifhten that you want to raise the walth of the hobiteers. They can raise it for their own.

So we will see what happens. But it was foreseeable that more magic guilds will fill the vacuum that the magic academy leaves behind.

But maybe I´m wrong.
If this is the truth: Elara will be with you.

How about a roleplay reason?

Nilo wrote: we are simply casting spells against other people! How else do you get magic resistance
If you cast spells against each other and your purpose is to get magic resistance, then that's powergaming. If you can't get magic resistance legitamately, then just don't do it.

Dyluck you see how important it is to reactivate you academy. More like this will follow.

maybe you both should quick trashing this mage guilds intentions and continue your talk in pms. First of all i dont think powergaming is very realistic, for instance, say i want to be strong because I'm tired of people beating me up, wouldn't training to be stronger be powergaming in reallife? You see people do powergame in real life, everyone wants to be better then what they really are. Anyways, i would join yer guild.... but im not smart enough to cast simple spells

@Bumbol: This guild has given non-RP reasons for it's "training" (ie. helping newbies, raising magic resistance). Maybe you should think about why this guild is being criticized before you defend it.

People don't shoot each other in the head to become more resistant to bullets. Purposely taking pain such as a fireball in the face is not RP.
If you have a problem with what is considered powergaming go talk to the GMs. I don't make the rules.

Dyluck your roleplaying reason was to make a school and make money, plain and simple. This guilds intentions are to make newer players safe from powerful monsters and evil players. That is its roleplaying reason, to help themselves defend themselves from strong monsters. And they aren't going to be using incredibly powerful spells, as Nilo said it is just for intermidiate mages.

Perhaps some unforeseeable reasons will appear in the near future that this guild seeks to have their members practice magic and increase magic resistance...Only Time can tell. I am sorry if my first post sounded a bit suspicious, but just want to prevent something truly terrible such as a guild that promotes powergaming through a warning. But one thing Nilo...you as I understaqnd it are a halfling. Why is it that you are so interested and in depth in magic that you start a guild for wizards? From my knowledge halflings generally avoid all magic except the magic of nature and the earth...Perhaps you should think about the unRP implications of a halfing "head wizard" before you continue on with this."
May Elara watch over you all!

Whats wrong with a halfling head wizard when there are friendly orcs, and human and elf miners?

Bumbol Woodstock wrote:Dyluck your roleplaying reason was to make a school and make money, plain and simple.
So? What's your point? There's nothing ooc about that reason.
Bumbol Woodstock wrote:This guilds intentions are to make newer players safe from powerful monsters and evil players. That is its roleplaying reason,
Newer players? Evil players? You call that a roleplaying reason? Hah! Your so-called roleplaying has ooc terms. Go think about what roleplaying means!
Bumbol Woodstock wrote:to help themselves defend themselves from strong monsters.
Nice try, but there are no monsters that use magic. Stop making excuses.

His primary intentions are pretty clear from his first post.

For what it's worth, raising one's resistance to magic attacks by having someone cast on you sounds exactly like powergaming. How else could it be described?

This guilds intentions are to make newer players safe from powerful monsters and evil players. That is its roleplaying reason,
Newer players should not be safe on their own against 'powerful monsters'. Also, since no monster currently shoots any spells, there is no reason to raise the MR-skill with this excuse either.

You are clearly mixing up evil characters and players.
Evil characters should be dealed IC, evil players are OOC and should be left to the GM's to deal with.
Suggesting that the 'evil player' breaks the game rules, that is.

Dyluck was setting some standards with his academy. You took place in exams. And this exams was a standard for the Mage qualifying.

Wow. There are a lot of angles to see on this. Most of them, against mine. But, I am still going to continue this I think until a GM tells me otherwise. And, as for what Serpardum said, He's not closing this guild down. I should have said from the very beginning ALL of the things we are doing. I have decided that training to raise the magic resistant levels is not legitimate. But, we will duel, and for that, you need magic resistance. ( it helps greatly anyhow..) Furthur more, i liked what Bumbol said about the whole "we would train in real life to get better against other people". I think that is true. You can't "powergame"in real life. You simply train and get better. Which is what we are going to be doing I'm hoping.

Yes, I have recently read the forum of him leaving. Darn. He was very nice, and i will greatly miss him. We will be forced to ban him from this guild. ( and yes, we have several members still)

You should have. Cause there so many people coming to Illarion want to learn magic. And this as fast as can. I dont acept and respect your proceeding.
This is not speacily against you. Only I think you gave the too fast learning an institution.
But we will see.
