Justice!

Post by Juniper Onyx »

* A petition to the Don arrives*

In the marketplace just now, a "Sir Redric" of Cadomyr did asssault me as I was unarmed moving to the workshop to make some pincers for a customer. He stopped as I armored up and grabbed my dagger and he apologized. Arlic of Runewick and Matz were witnesses.

I nodded and asked him not to do it again.

He did it again as he walked past me!!

I gave chase and yelled to halt by order of the Don! He ran about the town as I gave chase, obviously aware of my danger with the dagger. However, once leaving the town, he turned on me and gave fierce battle. I ran to the safety of the guards, and yet he continued to pursue me into town too.

He finally stopped and told me to yield. In the name of the Don, I could not! I then demanded compensation of 1 gold for his crime. He refused saying that he was a knight of Cadomyr and refused to be extorted. I asked several times and explained his crime.

I told him that he committed a crime against a former chancellor and current patrician trying to do his duty for the Don and demanded compensation for his rudeness and crime. I told him that we were peers in different lands, equal to him and I demanded compensation otherwise I was going to try to arrest him..

He refused again and ran south to the malachite mine.

I demand justice! I only asked for 1 Gold for the danger to my person, my business and the loss of profit from a customer at the time of the attack. Where is Cadomyrian Honor in this??

I ask the Don for justice!!

A Clash of Words and Blades

Post by Prince of Thieves »

Earlier that day, 22nd of Adras 73.

It was a busy day like any other at Galmair's bustling market square; merchants tended to their stalls and peddled their wares, with townsfolk and foreigners alike browsing for good deals. One of these foreigners was a knight covered from head to toe in plate armour and a red cloak, prowling the market with slow, clattering steps, stopping occasionally at stalls to inspect their offers, and glancing through his helm's narrow eye slits over to the central depot, which was surrounded by a gaggle of short men, two dwarfs and the famed halfling merchant Bernie Bottoms, haggling over merinium ore and tools.

Just as Bernie left the group and ran to the workshop, the armoured knight turned away from one of the stalls, bumping violently into the running halfling, who screamed either from pain or shock, and backed off to the depot.

"Oh, my apologies. 'Twas but a mistake, I did not see thee pass by!" the knight yelled after the running halfling, his voice echoing metallically through his helm.

Bernie hurriedly reached into the depot for his weapon and armour, into which he speedily slipped, ready to confront the knight: "Do that again and I'll have you arrested!"

"Pray forgive me," the knight apologised with a faint cough to the now equally armoured halfling, which he accepted with a sigh and nod. Yet, be it out of spite or sheer clumsiness, when the knight walked past Bernie, he once more jostled against him.

"Oh, how clumsy-" the knight's sardonic voice rang through his helmet, before being swiftly cut off by Bernie, who already was upon the knight with his drawn dagger.

"Ah, cease this, halt! Stay thy blade! Art thou mad?! 'Tis madness! I have but bumped into thee by accident!" pleaded the knight as he tried to get away from the wroth halfling, running across the market and workshop, with his short-legged pursuer hot on his loudly clanging heels, who chased the hapless knight out through the town gate and beyond.

What happened next only they themselves know, but the tables seemed to have turned, with Bernie being chased by the knight back into town, both their armours equally scratched and chipped from dagger cuts.

"Halt, thou blackguard! Yield and lay down thy blade!" the knight demanded, panting from exhaustion, having cornered Bernie at knifepoint in the Sleepy Bujhaar Inn.
"You attacked me first!" retorted Bernie and reached for a potion to heal his wounds.
"I had but stumbled into thee by accident!"
"Liar! You are banned from my business!"
"'Twas a mistake, for thou art small in stature, and I could not see thee through my visor!"

Their ways parted there, only to soon meet again at Galmair's workshop.

"What demon hath possessed this halfling to raise his blade against me?" the knight thought aloud just before spotting Bernie in the workshop, who once more confronted him with sharp words and a sharp blade.

"Wilt thou leave me in peace?" the knight pleaded tiredly.
"Go away!" demanded Bernie and crossed his dagger's blade with the knight's for another bout in the middle of the workshop, its resident craftsmen becoming the duellers' involuntary spectators.
"Enough! Thou art a madman!" declared the knight as he fenced with the halfling.
"I am Bernie! And I'm mad!" confirmed his tiny, though no less fierce opponent.

"Be careful, Bernil!" warned one of the dwarfs who watched the dagger duel, until the exhausted combatants separated to continue their battle with words.

"I hold you under arrest and demand compensation."
"I asked thee to forgive my accident, yet thou assault me?"
"You attacked me."
"I bumped into thee."
"I was just trading and smithing, minding my own business. You're a scourge and rogue. The Don will hear of this."
"These are lies! I just ran into thee when thou passed by. 'Twas no attack, but an accident! What madness hath possessed thee? Why should I attack thee in the middle of day?"
"I have lived here all my life. I deserve respect. I have many friends."
"I, Sir Redric of Cadomyr, once more ask for forgiveness for my clumsiness."
"I demand some compensation."
"For bumping into thee?"
"Yes."
"'Tis outrageous!"
"Gold speaks louder than honour here, 'knight'. As a former chancellor and current patrician of Galmair, I have rights."
"Calm thy spirits, good Sir, I meant thee no harm."
"Then leave Galmair, I shall never trade with you. Your loss, not mine."
"As I told thee, as thou ran by, I was about to turn around, bumping into thee by sheer coincidence."
"Words, words. I had you on the run and you turned to do battle, resisting arrest."
"I meant thee no harm, hence I retreated, but as thou did not relent, thou had left me no choice but to defend myself. 'Twas thee who assaulted me for my mistake."
"Aye, as was my right as a patrician and defender of Galmair! The Don will side with me, of course. Want to ask him?
"I won't entertain this foolery."
"One gold should be sufficient."
"A knight of Cadomyr will not be extorted!"
"You are in Galmair and assaulted a 'noble' of Galmair. I am your peer, Sir!"
"To bump into someone at a bustling market is hardly assault."
"Compensate me!"
"I refuse and have heard enough! I shall be on my way."

Bernie Bottoms readied his manacles: "I hereby arrest you in the name of the Don."

"Never!" Sir Redric exclaimed dramatically, and once more drew his dagger, ready to fend for his freedom, kicking the workshop's door open and darting out, with Bernie chasing the knight out of town for good.
