Gemming armor or weapons

I havent tried to do either for some time now, so has it changed? But I double click the gem, get a menu, select, then click again. nothing. What am I doing wrong, or is it broken?
That is still how it works.
Is the gem you are trying to socket in your depot by any chance? If so it won't work, it has to be in your bag/belt. If it's in the depot you still get the menu but it doesn't get put into the item.
