I bet that all the older folk are going to say i'm crazy because they are already experts  and we youngins "are just powergaming, trying to get our skills up instead of roleplaying". You'll see. But, i feel that the skills are too hard to raise and that it should be easier by half. It is no fair that the original people are getting rich off the newer people because they joined before the 10x harder junk. Everyone rally behind me and maybe we can achieve something.

I can guarantee it wont work... they will tell you that if you dont like it, you are not being held against your will to stay.

I think a guild should have goals which concern ingame events. That means goals like freedom for the opressed pigs in Troll's Bane  or sth like this (in a more serious way. But I couldn't think of a good example)
What you're trying to do is to mix up OOC (because skills are OOC, nobody should talk of skills in Illarion) and IC.
So in my opinion your post doesn't fit to the guild board.
Uhm very difficult to explain in English, but I hope you understand what I'm trying to say.

This guild is an OOC guild.
It does not have a webpage...will not have many members...and you're just looking for trouble by taking on senior players in such an OOC manner.

Which part of this coalition is not OOC?
And I not any, why even bother posting on the GUILD board..?
I think, that these guilds should be joined by CHARACTERS not PLAYERS.

My expertises. :?

See that, people are creating an unequal aristocratic setting that is halting all progress economically and socially in our society

paul laffing: Let me just say this. The easiest, and best, way to achieve equality with new and old characters is not by changing the server more, but by simply doing a character wipe.

Deleteing your skills and items.

Then everyone will be equal with everyone else.

We would do that *before* anything else if the players pushed for equality between old and new players. This equality has only come about over the years because of server changes to make the game better (magic change, skill change, etc...).

If you are pushing for equality between older and newer players, that is what you are pushing for, a character wipe *now* and not sometime in the future.

Eventually a character wipe will be required once things become *really* out of balance, but we are not wanting to do one now so players don't "loose" the things they've worked for.

But, if all the players want equality now, then we can do a wipe now. It is something we just thought the players didn't want.

I can tell you this: A character wipe will hurt you reguardless if you are an old or a new player.

Why?

Right now armour and such are still relatively cheap, as are rings, etc.. That is because there are master blacksmiths out there and they can sell you things. After a character wipe I can guarantee that "master" items will go for anywhere from 10x's to 1000x's more than they are now. Plate mail, which currently goes for about 200 gold, would probably be sold for 2000 gold or more, just becuase there would be very few master blacksmiths, and it would take a long time to get there.

And this goes for all player made items, potions, wands, bows, arrows, etc...

So, Paul, I think you are going to find it very hard to get enough percentage of players willing to go through this when it will right now hurt everyone.

As for your solution to make skill gain easier: no.

I dont' think "equality" was ever intended or necessary. Since Illarion is not about a race to gain skills or money, advantages that older players might have gained ahead of time is an issue that we shouldn't be worried about. "Richer, older players" would actually serve well as wealthy nobles in the background community of illarion and adds depth to it. I don't think things will ever go "really" out of balance that a character wipe will be necessary. The little bit of economic balance that might be gained from from a character wipe would do little for the RP damage it would bring by reducing everyone to a similar peasant state, and having the entire populace trying to work on their non-existant skills.

This post is only in regard to the notion of a character wipe.

Hmm..

I found this sudden desire for 'Equality' quite amusing.
'Equality' has nothing to do with this, you people do not just want to have to spend weeks of time to master a skill.
I'd like to underline my opinion, that this is the way it should have been when I stated playing.

How long do you think that this will be remembered? A month? Two months? After which, it will be forgotten, because it is completely ordinary for the new players that will be the majority at that moment.
Also, Mastering any skill in Illarion has been easier than in any other game. Concider that. Any other game that I have played, mastering one skill will required about three weeks of intensive playing.. OR propably more.

Whatever, can a GM just close the topic? I do not want to read anymore. I am... tired.
