Proofreading of new books

Posted: Tue Oct 21, 2014 8:30 pm
by Banduk
We have a number of books which need a simple proofreading only before we can format them and put them on the bookshelfs IG.

If you want to help, just open it in the etherpad editor and correct online.
Please use the following languages:
Deutsch - Hochdeutsch
English - British English

Please let us know, if you finished any proofreading.

How I understand proofreading?
One point is the usual proofreading for spelling and comma.
The other point is correction of translation. Be aware books with origin German are translated by non native speaker so the English part is far away from perfect grammar, right use of proverbs or common construction. As long as you don't change the content feel free to correct this as well. If the content is not understandable, please let us know.

With the exception of the fact, that anybody try to destroy Letastos Diary I can't see any input here.
Using of the time slider I restored the totally destroyed text.

Dear native English: Proofreading means, we need someone, who check spelling and grammar.
In all cases the German proofs are done, but we miss at least one English. Often the texts where translated by German native speaker. Spelling I checked initially with a spellchecker. But don't expect correct grammar and be aware of false friends and proverbs.
Nobody will blame you for a mistake. Progress includes errors. But no progress means stagnacy. We can't publish the text without your help.

Using the tool is not difficult!
Just click the link. It opens the text in a browser and you can edit direct. All changes are saved. There is no need for any save button. Each author is highlighted in another color.
It would be a help, if you write in the color box in the right upper corner your pseudonym. Or send me an PM, if you did one text yet.

I hope, I can forward some of the books here soon to the bookshelfs IG.

Eyo.

As some might know, I wrote a small viewer emulating the in game formatting.
(Includes the new formatting stuff not found in old books such as poem or the linebreak and alignment properties.)

Looks like this:

Image

Banduk made it available in the book-development sub-forum.
But as not all (including me) do have access to that, I figured that some might find it helpful for the proofreading.

I worked on the festival of relationships, gem books, the chronicles, and the poems. The poems could use some more work, mainly because I am not a poet. The gem book should be done EN side. Relationships should be pretty much done, but having a second pair of eyes on it would be helpful. The Chronicles should be in the same position.

The rest of the books have also been looked through, and proof-read on the English side. If they need to be formatted with the /paragraph stuff, I might be able to look into doing that, but my knowledge of it is spotty at best. Good luck, and I hope it was of some use.

Also, Lake of Live should be Lake of Life.

There are 2 more books.
A myth for Cado and a fighter manual.
The Orcish dictionary required a single English proofread. Do we not have Engish native player, playing an orc?

I added 11 texts where proofreading is required. In the most cases the English proofreading is missing.

Especially important are the updated texts about Gods. The text will result in about 20 books and have to be used to update the webpage as well. Here a German proof is mandatory as well.

Eglish Natives - Please Help!

Some books had been finished yet, new were added.

If you are not involved in Illarion development and do not act as GM and be a native English speaker please take a look, if you could support.

Take into consideration that nearly all the game IG and forum is English only. Player and developer try to do everything in your language once you appear. Be aware, all those people limit themselves. Most could express them much better in their native language.

I'm quite sure the grammar above is not English :-(.

Proofread. For the last paragraph of the last book, I submitted a different option of translation. Doesn't change meaning or lore, just makes it seem cleaner in my opinion.

English Native Player Searched

English Native Player Wanted

There is a urgent request to Engish native player to support proofreading. We are missing in all cases at least one English proofreading.

So if you are not a developer and not a GM, please look at the begin of these thread and help to finish the books and get them IG in line with the related ongoing quests.

The most urgent is this one:
Proof 2xEn - Letmas Geheimnis/Letmas secret - https://notes.typo3.org/p/Illa_LetmasSecret

Again and again I'm looking for English proofread.

Proof 1xEN - Ushara's Garden - done
Proof 2xEN - Letter of Saint Cornelius - done

Please not the usual developer or , who work in all the other issues the player want. I'm sure we have some native English player able to read and correct a text.

I have new book made by a player for proofreading.

The book is planned to have in each hospital to improve the atmosphere there.

Please have a look to the Etherpad https://notes.typo3.org/p/Illa_firsthelp and correct typos and especially English grammar nightmares.

Thank You
