For honor

He visited the altar as he often did. Kneeling he spoke " Arr.. Lord of battle teday I fight fer tha honor of tha queen, may it be a good fight and if I die? Then may I feast in yer halls by night and fight tha great undead legions by day in your great army." A slight wind brushes his left side, as he turns to look he sees nothing he turns again to face the altar and there stood a large mottled wolf with eyes that showed a shocking sense of awareness, if the wolf stood and stared at him Vern could have done so as well for seemingly an eternity. But the wolf circled around him appraising him, judging him. It showed no sign of aggression. It circled again to the altar looking deeply into Vern, and suddenly it howled and with a rush of air made Vern blink, when he opened his eyes the wolf was gone. Vern quickly bowed " By Malachin... even if I lose teday I shall honor ye as ye have honored me teday." He stood then invigorated, he went into the sentry forest to hunt bringing the furs back to the Altar as an offering.
At the determined time Vern arrived, he was met by the condescension of many yet he didn't care, the great wolf showed itself to him. They went to the fields at which after the initial confusion Vern stood ready. The formidable orc charged the hammer seeming much too large, the orc's arms flexing tightly, Vern barely countered that initial charge. blinding blows were exchanged and vern felt as if he would fall when the orc fumbled ever so slightly with the oversized hammer and he felt as if a powerful guiding hand encased him, invigorating him. At that moment the battle turned he was able to just barely knock the orc onto the ground. The Galmairian crowd raged and Vern collapsed from a blow to his chest. He stood trying to help the orc and the Galmairans spewed insult after insult, some simply stormed off. Sighing Vern gave Krunk a pouch of 100 gold for the Don at least for engaging him in the combat. And he turned to the group and only Oxiana Congratulated him, whether or not there was a tone of spite in his voice Vern couldn't tell, he decided it was best to leave before the crowd got too angry. He left for Cadomyr going to the Malachin altar he sat.. and eventually fell asleep... He dreamt of the wolf...
