Magic death

Ok i dont know if this has been discussed before or not, but can you please have it so that it does not cast at all instead of killing you when you accidently cast on yourself. Please Please Please

I have died because of that accidently many times and if that happens I wont have anything left  . And if not then can you please decrease the amount of skill taken when you die? You just have to go easy on a mage its really hard even though i am experienced, it is not easy  and if any one of say it is easy to be a mage then shame on you i dont know how you do it but you do.

Magic is a powerful tool and requires great skill to wield. You must take the time to learn it properly lest you make a mistake. If that happens your magic often backfires onto yourself. Just practice and you should have no trouble controlling your spells. Be more careful when casting.

Get a wand and use it.

Hehe.. straight to the point, Serpardum.. could not have said it better myself.

Magic is a part of you and not something out of nothing, and thats why we have in ourselves mana. Its too brutal to kill a person just because he accidently aimed at himself. Its a lot simpler to not have any effect then kill the person.

Setherioth stop stating the obvious. Like I said I am adept (correction: not experienced) in magic, so there... never asume something just because you think thats what it is especially when I specificaly stated that i am experienced.

A wand eh? well not all targets you can stand up to and get not get slice in two, especially when the wand is a 2 handed item.

Dont assume that I was yelling at everybody either.

Well, there you are. You have a choice. Use a wand and not have a chance of zapping yourself, but have lower defense, or use a shield and have a chance of zapping yourself.

Sounds like you want to use a shield, so that is your choice. You can zap yourself.

Can you just neutralize the zapping part so nothing at all happens when you cast on yourself? That is all I ask. :!:

Then you would have people consitently castingon themselves to improve MR though, which is why this was done in the first place.

If you're using something as powerful as magic and you are using it as a toy, or are using it before you're ready and somehow cast on yourself, you are going to be hurt badly. The the only option is to either die or not be hurt at all or else it would be used to powergame MR, so death is the only option, and the correct one.

Does anyone here understand the word "NOTHING" as in Nothing happens when you cast on your self. And explain Mishrack how would you go about raising Magic Resistance when nothing happens. Do not write blindly when you reply.

@ Lanth
You dont die from magic you only die if someone casts some really powerfull spell on you. What makes you think that Magic is "TOY"? what maes you think I am usig it as a toy? I am a resurector, i see a dead person i resurect him. As you mentioned 'Hurt Badly" and then you mention "Death" make up your mind. And what makes you so sure that death is the correct and the only right option? The person deserves a chance. So for example at a similar situation a person is playing bal with a rock and accidently lands on his own foot and there fore he dies, now what makes you think that that is fair?

If you think death is the only option then something is seriously wrong with anyone who thinks that. You people need to stop playing violent games :D

Leaving the person with only 10% of health woud be a nice thing to do instead of killing them; and then the next time, they die. Then the thing resets when you log in so one mistake keeps you on your toes. I know someone is going to say that people will be able to raise their MR easily like that; now what makes you think that they would want to log in and out continously to raise their MR? Noone in their right minds would want to go through that.

Kringin, your argument is flawed... Firstly, you insult Mishrack for "blindly replying" to your half-baked idea... Then you go on to say that Lan is completely wrong. Lan was not saying magic was a toy, he was saying you are treating it like one if you are silly enough to cast on yourself... THEN you say "I am a resurrector..." which is foolish enough in itself since you are not going to die from a healing spell... And no, the person does not deserve a chance. That is a risk you take when you try to call upon the limitless power of magic.

"you people need to stop playing violent games"...you say. This has nothing to do with violent games. The fact of the matter is, when you cast a spell you run the risk of it backfiring.. especially if you are not focused on what you are doing. This would, in turn, result in death. This shouldnt even be discussed on the boards... Its the officials of the game who decide what is more true to the game and I dont see any point in contesting what they say... odds are they wont change it anyways.

As you can see.. I can go on and on about the flaws in your argument.. but instead I will sum it up:

What you are doing is trying to acquire justification for accidentally frying yourself with some spell. Now that it happened to you, you are a victim and are trying to suck all the lifeforce out of this little problem that you can. Proposals are supposed to be made for the betterment of the game, in general... not because someone experiences an accident and has to try and leech pity out of it...

Yours,

Incidently, you should probably read this tread:

http://www.illarion.org/community/forum ... ght=#14172

That was from when *I* asked the same question you did when I was a noob. As you can see, I dealt with it.

I personally think if you are such a dumbass to zap yourself you deserve to die.

Maybe if I'm such a dumbass then you're no better.

Think of me what you want but what you consider me to be, you will be no better then what you judge.

And for me to sum it up you people have no sense of rightness, are stubborn and have hubris glued to your heads.

You want to be rough I'll be rough.

Have a nice day. :D

This magic thing is a bit of realism for the game, and perhaps in the next client version ((I am guessing the code for the message is in the client, not sure though)) It will have a different message, which has been proposed already. About it being unfair... you're argument is like saying Grenades in Vice City should not hurt you, because you may run into the area they go off in...

Realism... realism... realism... is that all you see ? Well cant argue with what you believe but think about the fantasy part. *sigh* Soon enough we will be able to eat swords and kill ourselves or jump off cliffs in a GAME which is not so fun to do. And dont even bother comparing a RPG to a action-adventure-shooter game, in most shooter games you dont die of grenades or such explosive items you loose HEALTH. You have flaw in your statement.

Generally stating:
A game is supposed to be nice and if you think just because someone screws up in magic he deserves to die then, what fun is it? A game is to reliev stress and escape te wretchedness of real life.

Just because my mouse sometimes does not move, does not mean I need to die. And yes Cain it is related to violent games, you give your speech without giving it a bit More of thought. One of the major causes of violence is because of violent video games. After experiencing these violent games people find danger and violence a minor and maybe even a fun thing. You could say that I am good at psycology or something. Still many dont realize that and are stubborn to admit it. Does not matter really. But hey I play violent games. I guess you people dont like to play anything nice do you? No RPG up till today that i have encountered has death written on you when you accidently aim at your self. If its such a ardous task to be a nice person then just say it that its too much to ask for right now.

Have a nice day. :D

You have already been given a solution, get a wand. You don't want to use that solution, then you have to deal with the consequences.

Look at how many other mages are in the game and are not bitching about dieing when they zap themselves.

This has become a pointless discussion.

The answer is no, it will not be changed so that you don't die if you cast an offensive spell on yourself.

Everyone else is dealing with it, including myself.
