Hey its hard to find a picture of a halfling, but i found a couple ones that wernt from LOTR. Im not even sure if mines from LOTR, because my friend said he saw the hobbit in my advatar in a LOTRs cartoon at Kmart.

May be is your Avater from the LotR cartoon, but I guess there aren't so many people their read the cartoons

and I have nothing against cartoon Avaters, but the real ones are kind of boring etc and ifverybody just take them, we have twins or something and they aren't related, that pisses me off...sorry for my language, but I can't think of an other word
Have a great day-

For me it's a way to show how I imagine my character to look like. It somehow adds atmosphere if you walk through Illarion and have an imagination of how the people you see would look like.
However, somehow it seems that some people think they are here to show off their favourite pic of their favourite LotR or whatever character.

whats wrong with that? its only a board not a real life thing.

We do also have an "RPG-Board" so there is the direct connection to your character.
So if you all chose Frodo, if you play a Halfling(Hobbit) or Gimli if you are a dwarf, or Legolas if you are a elf .... ect.
Well in that case your chars would be assumend to look alike InGame.
By the way, there are many Sites out there that offer you some nice looking Avatars without the pale taste of simply copying from a well-know movie.
Yours,
Loki

Or you could swipe them from a game, like Loki

i think, most of them look awful. e.g. because of not using transparent colors as borders, the size, ...
furthermore, they slow down everything.

I think Martin is saying if we can't do graphics, we shouldn't place them everywhere (eg. Korwin...). If you want an avatar that is similiar to Loki's I could get a few. It wouldn't be stealing, I would be advertising Arcanum... One last thing, does anyone know where a free program could be found that would reduce color loss when changing bitmaps to graphics interchange or JPEG file interchange format? All my images with transparent backgrounds always have pink outlines.

Try the free program XNView. It does a lot.

I am with Martin.
I don't see a reason to use the avatars and they incredibly slow down the boards for every user, especialy if everyone is allowed to use his own avatar.
I always thought, that everyone has to put the avatar on his own website, but now that I realize that they are uploaded to our server (am I right?), I also realize that we (the team) might pay for them in the form of increased server traffic some time.

there is the possibility to upload avatars...
but all avatars uploaded together have a size of < 350 kb... don't think that will generate that much traffic...
though i also think those custom avatars are unnecessary...

Its not the 350KByte, its the fact, that these 350KByte get loaded over and over.

My LoTR avatar has a good explanation. First of all, i found so many good pictures that i wanted, but i couldn't fit them!

Anywayz, my char is in love with rings. I couldn't find any ring pix that were good, and then i found this one. It also represents human nature and the search for powers beyond our grasp. Quite a mouthful, ey?
