The call of Belessar

Post by Belessar »

After many months wandering in the woods and the mountains, avoiding the crowds - consciously or unconciously, we'll never know -, Belessar finds himself on top of a mountain, beholding the waves in their slow movements.
Suddenly, his thoughts are interrupted as he notices an exhausted dove chirping near him. On its now tired legs, it brings a message coming from afar. The condition of the parchment shows that the letter has obviously made a long journey.
The elf takes the message off the bird's leg and opens it carefully, reading it and frowning while his eyes run through the words.
After finishing reading, Belessar sighs and whispers to himself, looking absently-minded to the dove beside him, "I need to find Raena".
He stands, folds the letter carefully again and hides it near his chest, starting his journey down the mountain.

Raena had decided to spend some months out in the woods, alone just with the trees. Although her carpentry-skills are already well, she wanted to gain a better feeling for the wood, a deeper understanding. So after she had kissed Belessar goodbye, she disappeared in Gobaith’s endless woods. Only trees and birds acompanied her in this time and she got even more used to the sound of the woods than elves naturally are.

It is a starry night, but the starlight can only be seen through the roof of leaves, which the trees had build over Raena, who is lying in the grass and listening to the sleeping woods. Suddenly a breeze makes the trees around whisper and the elfess touches the ring on her finger carefully, whispering the name of her beloved elf silently. Without any obvious reason, she stands and starts to walk. On her lips silently whispered words. “The oak... “

Belessar is walking downhill when he wonders where exactly he would find his beloved one. He knew she'd be in the woods, but... where? Lost in his thougths, he reaches the base of the mountain and enters the woods, whispering her name, "Raena... Raena...". Looking around, searching for a clue, any track left, he can't find anything that would lead to the elfess. Suddenly, he seems to listen (indeed, if one asked him, he would say he actually heard it) to a female voice, not human nor elven, whispering in a gentle breeze, "The Oak...". He even turned to see if there was a person behind him, so clear the voice was. But then he chuckles and changes the direction of his steps, walking more decisively and saying, with a smile of satisfaction in his lips "Thank you, Sirani".

After some days of walking, the elfess finally arrives at the whispering oak, exhausted since her sleep has not been the best after she got that feeling she was "called" to the oak. But exhausted or not, the elfess' green eyes search the surrounding carefully, but without finding anything more than the usual birds and plants. So she sits down, leaning towards the oak, telling herself this must be to train her patience and finally falling asleep in a dreamless dream, surrounded only by the warm whisper of the oak behind her....

Belessar keeps his steps decisively towards the Oak until some Trolls decide to block his way. The elf frowns and tries to ignore them, since he has more interesting subjects to take care of. But the creatures aren't busy with any other matters and they go on to annoy him. Belessar sighs and shrugs, "Alright, if you're looking for trouble, why don't we start it right now?" After defeating a couple of trolls, he puts another one to run, but this one attracts more, which are too much for a single elf.
Faster than the large creatures, the elf finds a way and hides from the group, but he has to spend longer than he would wish in that position. "Trouble alone is not the same fun... I wish she were here..." When there's finally only two of them again, he faces the beasts and beats them to death. "These ones won't bother anymore."
Before their absence is noticed, the elf hurries back to his path, having to beat some wolves and a few more trolls, but only when really needed.
After a while, Belessar finally gets to the Oak and sees his beloved one asleep by the tree. His face brightens with the vision, and a large grin replaces his worried expression. The elf kneels slowly before the elfess and kisses her face softly, whispering "Wake up, Sweetie. I need to talk to you, meine Königin."
Above them, the sky turns into a dark blue and he smiles, "Of course. It had to be night."
