Long story short, whenever I search for herbs in desert flowers or desert ferns , I repeatedly get the message "You find nothing but dry sand" until I am interrupted by a message (such as "You wipe sweat off your forehead).

Is this because my herblore is too low for these plants, or is it a bug?

The herbs you are looking for don't grow in this season I guess.

Your herb lore must be too low, grasses are working. May be the wrong time of year for ferns.

Grasses are okay for me, it's ferns and flowers. I'll check back in the autumn then
