Odd problem with Woodcutting

Whilst cutting down trees...it seems to work but...There's still a tree there, as well as the newly fallen log. Any explanations?

That happens when you put magical water on the same apple when growing trees. Be careful!

I think he was being sarcastic, but yeah there is magical water. Water or Irundar or whatever the name is.

Meaning is hard to glean whilst speaking over the internet...I think it was 90% of a sentence is body language and tone...the other 10% is the actual words you choose.
