What and where is a whetstone?

To my understanding, I don't believe there are whetstones ingame... In real life, they were something (possibly a stone?) that was used to sharpen blades (axes, swords, etc.).
I think they may have been used to polish them, too. I'm not too sure... That's just what I remember about them.
I've seen characters RP using a whetstone to sharpen their sword, ingame, if that's why you are wondering. That's purely RP, as far as I know.

I think he means the gem grinding wheel thing...there is one in the smith shop in Bane.

Whetstones are still very common. People who are serious about keeping knives sharp use them regularly. They were also a very common item in the ancient world. One of those things that couldn't be improved upon so it hasn't changed much in ages.

The only place the whetstone is mentioned is when you use scissors. "The scissors got blunt and you use a whetstone to sharpen them."

If something asked you for a whetstone - I'd report it as a bug, since there aren't any IG.
But there's a gem grinder in workshops (for cutting gems) - and there's a MILLSTONE outside of the tb workshop (for making oil) - not sure whether you want either of those.

The millstone is for making flour, the oil press is for making oil

Now that you mention it..I might have seen one too...
Maybe its another useless item like the carpentry hammer that undead things and gnomes sometimes drop?

the gem grinder IS a whetstone in real life. In illa its just called a gem grinder because it is hardly ever used for sharpening because thats not what it was designed for ig. But heres an idea. Why not edit it so that it so that it can also makes weapon newer, so it like fixes rusty sword and dagger type item, but has a chance of breaking them....

I checked the item lists and there's nothing called a "Whetstone" there. Must have been a custom-lookat for a quest or something?

When using scissors you will sometimes get a message..." The scissors got blunt. You use a whetstone to sharpen them." I get this often when making thread from sibanac.

That is just a random interrupt message. You use your imaginary whetstone. There is no such item in the game, as there are no leaves falling from the trees; it is all just within your imagination.
