Welcome to
The Farmers' Union

History
The New Union had a long and vibrant history within Illarion, and more accurately the island of Gobiath. Formally the Farmers Union and then the New Union, Its original founding members have long gone, but its fundamental beliefs and philosophies have not. They have carried on through the years with the passing on of its leadership and guidance to like minded individuals. The New Union was founded by two individuals, Munalunder and Darney de Soley. To this day Darney rests under the old tree forever gaurding the gates of the Union. It started with a simple membership of 12 individuals with a common goal of farming and serving the island of Gobiath. Since about the 13 June 2008 by the Dwarven Calendar the New Union has carried on a tradition of fair trade and service to many of Gobiath’s citizens, communities and guilds. This tradition carries on today with more active members then ever before recorded.

Present Day
Membership
Today the recorded membership list contains over 20 active members, representing nearly every race and trade within Gobiath. Nearly any person or creature can become a member of the union as long as they uphold the laws of the union and don’t belong to any groups known to be against us.

Our Guiding Principle
The Farmers' Union retains the original concept of farmers helping farmers but has expanded to encompass so much more. It is a gathering place for those seeking a peaceful, neutral existence away from the troubles often encountered in other Gobiath communities. We are a community of craftsmen seeking to live in harmony with our neighbors and nature.
We encourage our members to practice their chosen crafts and provide them with a neutral, family oriented atmosphere in which to grow and prosper while providing services and trade goods to the rest of the Illarion community. The union itself hopes to grow as well, looking to expand and develop as the needs of our members grow and expand. It is a changing world and the Trades Union will look to keep pace in it. With expanding facilities, better living conditions and increased travel/trade options.

So welcome one and all to our fair community. We look forward to serving you.

Rules
The following rules are in keeping with the overall goals of the Farmers' Union (henceforth called the union) and are meant to ensure a happy and fair life for its membership.

1. Anyone not associated with a group or groups known to be what is commonly considered an evil or unsavory entity will be permitted to join the Farmers' Union provided they uphold the following laws of the union.

2. Any member found to be in contradiction to these laws may be dismissed from the union without warning at the discretion of the Chairman and one Board Member (Trustee)

3. Three warnings to a member constitute an immediate dismissal.

4. Any Trustee may give a warning except in the case of the third and final warning which must be with the permission of the Chairman.

5. Any member may present his/her case against any warnings they receive to the Chairman and one other Trustee, who will then present the case to the governing board for a vote to dismiss the warning.

6. Each member is entitled to one or two keys for their own personal use, at a cost of one silver coin each. Said Keys remain the property of the union and are to be returned to a Trustee upon leaving the union for a full refund.

7. Each member is entitled to use any of the union’s facilities as they see fit provided the facility is not already in use.

8. Keys are to be kept in the member’s personal depot and not loaned out or sold.

9. The Union fields may be used by non-members provided they are not needed by a member.

10. Non-members must be escorted when inside the union building. At no time may a non-member be allowed to remain inside unattended.

11. Members are free to conduct their own sales and services with no payment due to the union.

12. Orders taken and allocated to a member by a Trustee, which are deemed Union orders, will require a ten percent sales commission to the union. The member filling the order must be informed that it is a union order and what amount is due to the union, before he/she accepts the order.

13. Trustees and the Chairman will use their discretion to determine which orders are Union orders and which orders are personal orders.

14. Members receiving orders for the union may pass them on to a Trustee, Only Trustees and the Chairman may allocate orders to other members, so as to keep a fair allotment of orders.

15. Some preference may be given to newer members if the order is deemed appropriate to the learning and advancement of a new craftsman.

16. All members should be fair and honest with a goal to advance the reputation of the union. They should conduct themselves as representatives of the union at all times.

17. Experienced members should help new members in their trades as best they can with the understanding that there is plenty of work for everyone and we succeed as a team not as individuals.

18. While the union maintains no guard or militia for its defense, it is encouraged for all members to learn to defend themselves and to know which members are capable of lending assistance when needed.

19. Any sparring/training will be done near the fire pit so as to avoid spilling blood on the fields.

Governing Board of Trustees
The Governing Board of Trustees will be comprised of the following.

One Chairman
Elected at the next meeting and then, before the start of each summer growing season. Responsible for everyday running of the union and overseeing meetings and other union activities. He has the added responsibility of tie breaker in voting and as a guiding voice in the union life.

One Production/collection clerk
Responsible for management of orders, such as collecting goods to fill large orders from those allocated the orders. Passing the filled order onto the Trade representative to finalize the order with the customer.

One Development/ maintenance clerk
Responsible for any construction and maintenance required by the union as well as securing goods for said development. Any supplies and goods required should be secured in-house as much as possible.

*a brown robed figure using a walking cane limps over to the wall with a cat wearing a cat sized leather armor cut so it still has full movement of it's limbs following it and reads the posts. if anyone noticed the figure they might would have sensed a smile on it's voice as it whispered in a horse voice*

"Saigwin has done me proud"
"maybe now I can rest"
"and if my nightmares would go away I might could even sleep"

*the figure limps away mumbling something about a Vorpal Bunny while the cat follows behind*

(after the figure and cat vanishes from sight into the woods a horse voice might be able to he heard yelling)

frowns a little then sticks a piece of parchment of his own on the board of the union

From what i can see Saigwin is either on a good wee holiday or he's got lost in the toilet, either way we need this place running. If the lads Saig appointed the maintenance clerk, collection clerk, Trade Representative, Quarter master and I'm guessing Saig was the chairman, come out and say so that we know who is supposed to be running this place and not leave it on the few who actually are like Arabel and others that would be great. Either that or I say we need to call a meeting as soon as possible to get this place running again which would benifit everyone on this island due to the fact we can fill out orders a bit faster than them knuckle draggers.

*Arabel reads the two latest notes, sighing sadly over Shanika's and nodding agreement with Seredoc's. She writes a neat note of her own and pins it up*

First: Shanika has not broken any rules. I ask that all of our members seek her out and try to persuade her to come home.
*a few words are squeezed in here a day or so later* I am happy to report that Shanika has come home.

Second: Seredoc has the right of it. Saigwin had indeed left us, and we are leaderless. In the interim, Velisai and I are doing our best to keep the place running. A meeting is of the highest priority, for we need crafters from every discipline if our base is to be kept in good repair and our home saved.

Will keyholders please contact me as soon as possible, preferably by dove in order to keep this board uncluttered.
We need an up to date list of members and keyholders who are eligible to vote in matters regarding the Union.
Contact me also if you hold (or have lost) a key and no longer require it. Your deposit will be returned when the key is in Union hands.
New keys have been ordered and will be available soon for new members, along with a welcome pack of basic farming and cooking tools.

A note was pinned above the two chests in the Union basement.

Hiho,

This is Pancho writing. I met a human by the name of Oxx Goodhunk that said he would be interrested in joining the Union.
I think he'd fit in well and I suggested he should stay around the place so he might meet more of the other members so you can all get to know him.

He looks forward to meeting more of (the last two words were crossed out) all of us and wishes Oldras blessings to all of ... (the whole sentence was crossed out)

He looks forward to meeting all of the other members, Sasha he already met, and sends Oldras blessings and best wishes.

*Arabel angrily and wearily pins up a note*

To whomever dug up or destroyed the trees surrounding the firepit.

I hope you are happy in the knowledge that it has taken me an entire afternoon to replant the trees. I an tired, hungry and very, very angry.
If you chop down a tree... REPLANT! If you don't know how to plant a tree, ask me. I will even give you buckets.
Arabel

And to anyone esle who need applewood. Use the trees to the west of the fields over the hedge. Do NOT cut the trees in the sheep pen or near the fields and firepit. And REPLANT those that you kill!

A note is pinned to the door of the Union door it is written in New and Old Common, the handwriting is of average quality the note reads.

" To all members of the Union the person who has been cutting trees down on the Union grounds goes by the name of Jack he is a Human male and is always armed. It is best to be on watch for this person since it seems Ssar'ney is after him as well.

Those seeking more information should seek out Fleta Ross she is one of the people that heard his confession.

A wrinkled and torn parchment is posted.

I cut trees, I cut them all. I come to town, tired and cold, make fire. Others gather and brag, "I be the best druid, I be the best guard, I be the best cook." The druid makes animals and then kills them. The guard spends all his time outside the gates fight others. The cook refused me food. So I cut all trees in Troll town, and in druid home, and farmer home. Now the can not sit around fire. Now they must plant trees and guard they homes. Stupid people!

To 'Jack'

I am sorry that your experience in the town upset you.
I cannot speak for the others you encountered, but if you had but come openly to the Union and asked me, I would have gladly given you some food. I would not see anyone starve when I have the means to help.
It is still not too late.
Come see me. I may not be the 'best cook' on Gobaith, but my food is edible.
Arabel.

The tall man cautiously enters the Farmers Union. Seeing a note with his name on it, he tears it down and walks to the fire ring. Sitting on a log, in the shade of the newly planted trees, he struggles to read the note. Turning the parchment over he drafts his reply, "Arebel not lazy or selfish. I not cut your trees."
signed, Jack
Removing his hatchet he drives it into the southwest most apple tree, pinning the note. "Maybe I come see her sometime".

the trees around the fire pit ...

Is there any reason why there are now trees obscuring the firepit area? Quite apart from the security issues this presents, it is now very difficult to mingle sociably around the fire. We already have plenty of apple trees - and if not I will happily plant another 4 somewhere close by (as I have planted many others around the union ...) to replace the ones that are in the way! At the moment this area is almost unusable making cooking a nightmare and a fire hazard.

and?! The last hear the last I heard the Union was still ... a Union! - and as a union member I am asking a legitimate question that I would expect to have more of an answer than "new administration" I don't find it likely that an organisation of this sort has attracted a leader who thinks that way either ...

Sighing a little Seredoc pulls out his quill then gets a thought to rhyme at his will, he writes up his note with a tiny little laugh, then dashing down the road with chuckles and laughs

Oh Elfie oh Elfie how simple this be or just the same as a merry ol' tree. If trees you wish gone do as you wish, I'll plant them again, won't that be a twist?

On a serious note, the trees have been around for donkeys and I see no reason why they should suddenly disappear.

There is room on the logs, there are fresh apples to munch isn't that grand? I'll take two for lunch!

To Tak'zel and all members,

As per several conversations with prominent members of the union, I have made the apropriate changes to our board and we are officially known as The Farmer's Union once more. I hope this meets with everyone's approval.
