hrm...found this in a book about orc culture found in Bane library...
"If a slave showsa hard work ^ a strong soul he will be may given the chqance to leave. Sometimes slaves marry a female orc and are taken into the tribe, ceating many half orcs."
Sjnce half orcs are not allowed...?

Do you mean all the typos

?
"Half orcs" are no creatable player race. "Not allowed" is not right, I don't know who told you this - our rules are pretty clear on this:
3. The world
The scenario of the world Illarion is mandatory. The gods, peoples and races, described in the background material, are to be considered as given. Playing beings that are not creatable (e.g. vampires, half-breeds, changelings), playing technically impossible powers and influences as well as resurrection of permanent dead characters requires an approbation of a gamemaster.
So, you need very good reasons to play a half orc. "My father was an orc and so I am a half orc" is not a good reason.

Ah Estralis, but the above quote suggests that half orcs are rather common. So if you want to make it still sound like an 'ask a GM' it should be "Sometimes, slaves marry a female orc and are taken into the tribe, creating, in very rare cases, half orcs"

So, in order to play a half-orc, indeed any half breed, you need a better reason than biology?

Yes, mathematics

Jepp. We have nine player races. Should be sufficient. So, if you want to play something special, you need special reasons beyond the desire to play a special character that is not special at all.

Sounds reasonable, maybe you put this to Mantis?

My next character, I request, is to be a third halfling, a third lizard, and a third fairy. Please? Just kidding.

That's fine, as long as you can give a reason how it's possible to be a third of a race when it should only be possible to be a 1/(2^x)th of a race where x is a positive integer or zero.

When writing it, the phrase "Many half orcs" referred to their number within the tribe and comparable to the tribe members only, where you can see "many" as perhaps ten to twenty per cent of those tribes who allow that.
But not to the number of orcs on the world ;o)

It's still pretty ambiguous.

Don't see a phrase standing for itself, but read the whole Text it belongs to instead. ;o)

Now, i don't have access to the whole text, but it seems to boil down into this:
Sometimes slaves marry a female orc and are taken into the tribe, creating many half orcs.
You can dress it up however you like, but people aren't instantly going to assume that the "many half orcs" are going to be within the one or a minute number of clans. Also, running with that the word many probably isn't a good word for between ten and twenty percent. I would probably put numbers of that range under "a few".
But of course, if this isn't the whole phrase, feel free to fill me in on it.

I'm always suprised how flawed the staff/ex staff arguments is, when it comes to half races.
First it is "we don't have the graphics" which is downright ridicoulus, because the avatars we have are nice but fit to absolutly ~no~ char that I know off, noone is dressing this way, noone has these hairs and so on, so the avatar argument is pulled from..wherever.
Another one I love is that they think someone playing any halfbreed wants some kind of ~super~ power, which is wrong aswell, most "newbies" wouldn't make a halfbreed anyway, simply because they can't choose itfrom the beginning on, yes sometimes it was ridicoulus how about everyone on the island was magically a half elf, but seeing how elves generally are played as humans anyway, where is the difference?
To the now current argument I can only say that even ~one~ person is enough per tribe to be a playable half orc, seeing how gobiath is the hellhole of illarion anyway and about every demon, banshee, spider and what not magically finds their way onto the island you have to ask yourself why a halforc wouldn't be there, because after all they exist.

Then I think it is best we close this 'ridiculous' topic with the answer that half breeds need an approbation of a gamemaster.
