Referring to the economists' table, I hereby ask the community for a list of items that should be traded in every town - basic equipment and/or products.

As always, instead of telling what is wrong with lists of others, post your own list so we have two lists instead of none and can concentrate on the consensus!

all the basic tools for crafting. specialized ones i dont have a problem with peopel going out and looking for but the basic ones should require runign around half the island to find.

Hammer, crucible tongs, glassblow pipe, peel, slicer, carving tools, saw, hatchet, fishing pole, rolling pin, sickle, scythe, flail, needle, scissors.

also somebody who buys basic logical staple items for the unseen background citizens of each town. meaning fish, baked fish, grain, bread, and ham.

Somebody who buys and sells basic low level weaponry of each class. meaning a weak bow and arrows, mace, simple daggers, and a short sword.

very basic armor. meaning half leather armor, short leather legs, leather gloves and boots, and maybe a few low type hats.

somebody to buy and sell white cloth, a mortar and dye, because lets face it, it can be a real chore to find somebody who makes dye.

thats all i can think of right now

Bucket, spoon, small wooden shovel, peel, rolling pin, hatchet

... 'cause I hate to be hungry. And since you're asking, it would be good to be able to buy some basic food in any town.

needles, scissors, dye rod (if dye is expensive which possibly should be), mortar, buckets, hatchet, saw, static tools needed for beginner crafts, including resources like sheep to shear. Someone to buy cloth, thread, an NPC to buy dye, herbs, boards, handles, basic items such as robes, and bags, shoes.

Thanks to all so far, may I ask for a little bit more precision here and there? What means "food", "basic items", "potions" in this context?

Right..

Tools buying/selling in all towns (all tools)
Food being sold in all towns (mimics the type of town it is - lots of cake in GB)
Basic stuff bought: Some basic swords (serinjah, shortsword, broadsword) some basic daggers (simple, 'dagger') a shield or two, and some basic armor (chainmail and platemail)
Goldsmithed stuff : (Goblet, Copper Goblet, Cutlery)
Glass stuff: Grey Bottles, glasses
Clothes: (Don't know which exactly, but some/most clothes should be bought by NPCs - the town needs something to wear after all ;))
Dyes etcetera

Lists about what items should be bought/sold in towns, not the starting loadout of characters.

Ahh. My appologies. I read it wrong.

Basic food might be sausages, bread, pies.

It would be nice to have some ingredients also available for purchase, especially flour, honey and fruits. I'm thinking the fruits could be higher priced during winter.

Basic items... not sure what that means.

Potions ( I'm guessing antidote, healing, food, mana ) in each town... not needed imo. I would like to see antidotes available in Varshikar, though. Don't you just hate it when a scorpion comes to town? Maybe food potions available in all towns would be an asset since crafters use them as well as fighters.

Maybe the question was not clear enough: I am searching for a list of items that one should be able to sell and buy in every town, most probably by one NPC. A generic "noob trader" that buys basic junk and sells crap to get started. This does not stand in conflict with any other NPC stock.

Talking about potions, we have this new druid system, so the old potions, as they were mentioned in this topic, will be gone soon.

I'll try to summarize the posts here soon, so we can see what is consensus and what's not.

Would be easier to understand by noobs - if you really give the NPCs professions like "baker", "cook", "smith"... etc.

Just ask yourself : Where would i go to buy a bread ?
Logically, the "baker" would be an answer. "The supermarket" doesn't sound too medieval-themed.
A baker is also logical to buy some flour. That concept matches for kinda all professions. A carpenter may buy wood and sell wooden stuff. A smith sells iron tools and buys some coal and iron bars. And so on.

Damiens Idee finde ich sehr gut.
Kann man ja mit einem Namen kombinieren:

Bäcker Mehlstaub, Schmied Eisenhuf

Damit jede Stadt was individuelles hat.

Something like this is planned, but that is a different topic. Or do you want to have such a NPC of every profession in every town?

If I remember right, there are some NPC-guilds planned, wehere the players can be a part of? At these guilds you could get the basic Items for your occupation...

I dislike the idea of more npc's selling things. A 'noob trader' will just harm the game. Why would you go buy from a carpenter, when you can have that stock of plates -immediatly- from the npc noob. Need a sword? Lets get one from the npc! How about a shield? Npc!

But um.. isn't this kinda why we have zombies, and various other weak monsters for, to give out weak armor and weapons? And if tools are the issue, isn't that what other crafters are for? Like plates, and peels, and hammers, and razors? I mean, I have no issue with one or two npc's selling hammers and such, but do we -really- need 5 or 6 of them, when this stuff can be gotten from others, or already existing things?

All in all, I am just trying to figure out what is trying to be more supported here. Char to char trade, Char vs npc loot, or Char to Npc trade. (Ofcourse, Char to Char loot is available, but hardly worth it for a weak sword, or a slicer)

All that adding this noob npc in every town would do, is make clear and very powerful cuts to the crafting area, and the economy. More so, you need to make sure that the noob won't just spend their money on stuff they think they need, rather than what they do. Then we have lots of poor chars running around, asking for free stuff.

'Traded' means 'bought AND sold'.

While you can get plates from an NPC at a HIGHER price, if you find nobody who wants to buy them from you, you can also SELL them to an NPC, but player to player trade will still be the most profitable
