Get me from A to B NPCs

Was thinking about this today. Since we have the cow/mule script, then we can get an entity of some sort to follow us.

What if NPCs are randomly spawned, which when talked to, offer you to give you some coins/items if you successfully take them to another town or location.

Obviously you need to WALK them there.

Example: "Hello"
"Hello I'm Doris Meynard, I want to go to the Northmark, but I don't want to go alone... would you take me there? I'll give you 2 silvers if you do."

If you agree the NPC will follow you (like a mule) until you get it to the location, upon which case it'll disappear, thank you and give you the moneh.

I think this will be a good idea for many reasons:

I) Give new players a way of getting money
II) 'Encourage' players to explore the map and see the other towns
III) Promote activity outside of trollsbane.

Is this possible to do?

Discuss.

I like it.

Perhaps for more advanced quests you could even have obstacles appear along the way.

e.g. Protect the herb gatherer from wolves while they gather mushrooms. / Take a merchant through dangerous mountain territory.

It is possible.

The only tricky thing is what to do in case of a full reload / server restart. But possible nevertheless (even though with some inconveniences for the player such as restart the quest)

Sounds neat! Bronze medal for that proposal:

What kinds of quests would you suggest? Move NPC from A to B with a set of random locations sounds like a good approach, one must not overcomplicate things.

A set of ~20 locations, ~100 rewards and a pool of ~1000 names (generated) sounds like a good idea. Make one NPC spawn at one location at one time and upon completion of such a quest, make another spawn elsewhere as replacement.

This would be great for new players. my only question is would it add copper to the game that we are trying to remove? In other words I can also see older players using it...will we have all of a sudden traveling... rich chars? Other then that I really like the idea.

i dont think the player of a rich char would travel throught gobaith for 2 silver...but maybe a newbie who needs it...

Too morrowindish.

What if noone bothered with it and the whole map gets covered with random people spawn?

The way I'd see it is that you have one NPC which spawns in a random location (a defined number at a time - 3 at the same time at the most)

Once they travel they disappear and don't re-appear for an hour or so, so you don't swamp the area.

They disappear just like mules if you forget about them, and they should obey a "Leave" command which means you can't be bothered finishing it off, in which case they'll just disappear.

As a side-idea, I think it would be cool if you're walking through the southern forest and you see a little girl NPC who just wants to find her way out.

I would like to see 'rankings' on how the quest was done. Like, if your character goes -directly- to the place and you get there fast, you get more reward than those who wander over to Varshikar, and -then- go to Greenbriar to release the person.

Also, I would like to see more quests that give skill.

Depending which kind of npc you are "guiding" (crafter/figther/any kind of "magical" person) he could teach you a bit from his profession.

Hmm, that's an idea. If you have LOW skill (less than 30%?) he might teach you a bit... ?

How about a mission agency? You can get easy missions for beginners and hard ones for advanced fighters.(Missions for groups would be nice too)
You have to defend the client against monsters or something like that and if you succeed you get some money or items.
The amount of available missions with high profit should be limited of course. Is that possible at all?

Well, that's pretty easy to do to be honest.

The spawning monsters might be a bit tricky, but I dunno, maybe it could mark you with something and when you step in an area BAM?

*looks for pharse*
