I think that equipped weapons and armor should show on the character when people equip them.

I think you'd better run, quickly, the Illa community is on it's way.

*Community arrives, camera flashes to them, a slicing sound is heard*
Stop! In the name of all that is Holy!
An impossible proposal, and one that could easily be role-played instead.
BANG!

It's not impossible, it is possible. We need people who are ready to work on the numerous graphics needed for each character, i.e. for each armor and weapon and clothing for each race for each gender for each direction for each moving step

Ouch.
Other words, bring this proposal up in 3 years, Squee.

Makes you kinda wonder who the poor person who did the original graphics was.

i dont think we need graphics for every weapon. one graphic for the swords, one for axes etc. should be enough...if you want exact information...look at the char...

I COULD give it a try (or at least start doing one type of armor, e.g: metal) if someone posted one of the race in all positions possible.. at least it'll be a start..
I can't promise anything though, never tried it before..

I agree with that, also one graphic for all leather armor, one graphic for all metal armor, etc.

Exactly! Maybe two graphics for shields...a big one and a small one...helmets...i think one is enough...

Animation frames: 8
Walking directions: 4

36 pics
Player races: 9

324 pics
For each possible(!) combination of equipment you need 324 pics. You can do the math, exspect some thousands of pics to be edited. You will not do this with paintshop...

Those are great ideas. How long do you guys think it will take to get this done?

Yeah... 10 years about, maybe 8.

It can't take ten years..... impossible. All the great games out there are made and fully animated, and made in less than three. And this isn't making a game, this is making items show. I dont see how it can possibly take that long...

Well you see, other games have 100 developers working day in day out.
This game is made part time by about 5 devs.

In all seriousness? I think I COULD get done with one of the races in about a month.
Yes that'd be slow, but I'm not a pro and I'm saying COULD. Maybe it ends up looking like crap too..

If you need avatars to show equipment, Maybe Illarion isn't the game for you.

I don't need avatars. But wouldn't it be more realistic if it showed there equiped weapons?

There is one thing you are forgetting when you talk about fully animated games and what not. Our devs work for free.
When people are paid to make a game they are expected to do things by deadlines. No one here gets paid (except maybe in special adult bribes), to do anything here. All of our staff are vollunteers with lives outside of Illarion. If you wanted to pay a 15 dollar per month fee like on WoW we might have better graphics, items, skills, and a game filled of people who can't rp their way out of a paper bag.
Although I like your suggestion and it would be neat, I don't know if it is as high of a priority on the list of things Illarion needs as stuff like the priest and druid system. It would be nice, and it may happen eventually, but it won't be released in the next month or two unless someone is willing to sit down and make it.

Same here.
The key to success is to have 3D models. You create one for each race (=9) and if you did it right, you can make it turn, walk and create the different animation phases without too much work. Then, you can add a sword to the model and repeat the stuff. Editing the existing pictures in photoshop is a total waste of time.
The problem is, as far as I know: The original 3D models of our avatars were lost by the developers. Nobody has them anymore. So, brand new 3D models need to be created. If you can do this - PM martin. If you cannot do this - there are countless other options to help the game.

The major problem is that there are low-poly models are needed. Programs like Poser offer the possibility to create those characters pretty easy. But these Models are ultra-high-poly and its impossible to render them realtime.
