Night time gathering/crafting

During the night, it makes little sense for people outside to be gathering materials, or crafting outside. A person cutting a log in the dark is more likely to cut their hand, or a person cutting a tree is more likely to hurt themselves, and so on. Perhaps a dexterity decrease during the night, or make it more likely for an accident to happen like a tree falling the wrong way and hitting them during the night? No issue if it is -indoors- where there is light, but in the dark it is more likely for an accident.
Could this be implimented, or the idea improved?

So if I got half an hour to kill on Illarion and it happens to be night in-game at that time and I want to harvest resources in that time I should suffer penalties?
Is that fair?

You could always rp in that 30 minutes.
That's fair to everyone.

Hmm, a penalty to perception might be in order, this would be also interesting for fights.
That said, I'm not sure there are other weather penalties (are there?) but there should be IMHO. Try crafting in a thick fog...

Fog usually is a high substance and develops over fields, not over work benches.

Ofcourse, but when indoors the penalty should be lifted maybe?
Rain also would provide a problem for outdoor crafting.

As for the initial proposal, I think it's a rather easy one to deal with ig. A lot of work for a DEV for something so small. Instead of having the engine hurt your chances of making something, simply rp that you can't craft at night or if you do, rp that you cut yourself. Personally, I consider it bad rp to craft at night anyway, no matter if the engine says so or not.

I am against taking away something in game, a proposal to add something in "daylight" yet a lot of players can't be in game enough to control the day and night. They would be at a disadvantage. I don't think this will advance RP and it seems to me as mentioned, something that can easily be RP'd.

bad idea..on the other side wehad a huge storm just hours ago and i saw someone at the carpenter table..outside... so yeah you got to wonder how someone can craft with thunder and rain all around him.

If I was the crafter, I would have wanted the table to be placed inside the building then.

That's something that would be discussed with King Cromwell.

I really like the idea, but as julius says it can be done using rp. It shouldnt really be forgotten that this is a rp game. These kind of engine ideas should never really be needed.

that might have been me...annyywhooooo in real life working or creating something outside while its raining crazy people n such is not that hard.but, then again in game is nooooot real life... wood might be a..female dog to work with when it is wet. so maybe a penalty for wood when it is raining? and possibly creating an indoor working table in trolls bane for a carpenter who wishes to work while it is raining crazy people n such? oooooor is there allready a carpenter work space inside in trolls bane? just a suggestion....

The suggestion if fairly good I supose, except like Faladron says: Someone might just be able to log on Illa on a specific time of the day, and if this time is always night ingame, its not nice to be a crafter... However, if this doesnt apply indoors, I don't think its such a big problem...
Still, this sounds like quite some work with little benefit.

If someone can only play for 30 minutes, it's not like there going to get massive amounts of work done anyway.

Again, i ask the question : How much do you prefer realism over game fun ?

Realism can contribute to "game fun" too, y'know.

It can, but I feel this would be too restrictive.

Right now it does involve some work, but soon I think it'll be quite easy.

If someone finds it fun to stand at a workbench and watch #me starts to work for hours while people rp around them/storms go on over them then I'm almost certain your thinking about the game called Runescape. If realism enhances the rp, then it should be fun for everyone involved.

Personally, I am for total realism Damien, except when it comes to gods and magic;)

exactly, if you can only get on for thirty minutes, that is always night, and then during those short thirty minutes, the work you do is only a pile of crud... looks like it is the sky raining down on you. Little time, to do less work, and just because of rl timing, your little bit of work you -can- do isnt in good enough shape to have been worth doing to begin with.

If I remember correctly, it was Cromwell who put the workbenches out there to begin with the last time around.

I wish some of the players will stop trying to focus on making this game like real life, but instead remember that it would be a lot more fun; like a game!
What will a stat decrease bring to this? Just a few annoyed players who want to do what they came to this game to do but can't because of some bad stats.

I played that game! They said it was fully PVP but they have this weak jailing system! And, sure, it has no monthly charge, but they've got a cash money market and all the cool armors and weapons are crazy expensive.
Is that the CN Tower? Canada isn't real.
