Instruments Changes

I propose the removal of the Instruments skill, and the removal of the #me plays an X tune on a Y.
Reasons: I) They are totally useless right now. When the bard system comes out (hahaha) I'm sure they'll be wiped anyway
II) It just encourages people to spam #me plays an X tune on a Y a million and one times
III) Reason II results in some very bad roleplay situations
IV) If I want to roleplay an instrument, I simply "#me gently strums the strings of the lute, producing a beautiful sound", I don't need the game engine to spam something for me
V) You can no longer use them for exploit (*cough cough*)
Discuss.

How odd. I was just thinking about this yesterday. Whats the point of mashing shift + click in an empty room until I skill up enough to play a decent tune when I could just #me the sound to a greater effect anyway? The entire instrument skill makes no sense to me, and removing it until we have actual bard magic (or perhaps until we have sound clips that the instruments play?) sounds like a good idea.

Actually, it is really funny:
I was wondering these days, why it is impossible to rp a bard properly without having bard skills. You really have to look for a quiet place, where you don't interrupt someones rp, and *pg* instrument skills.
It is very stupid, the only nice thing about it is that usually the bards are no *geniuses* as it is at the moment, because pging an instrument is REALLY so boring no one can stand it for long, and so no one can play all the instruments.
But you also have to see that being a bard is somewhat boring without being able to USE your instrument, this is why I suggest to leave the system as it is, and change it with the bardmagic that is *soon* to come...
Well, and then don't just put all of the instrument skill away (if I think how much time I would have wasted then

), but change the learning process somehow. Make it easier for example to learn other instruments, if you are able to play one, because it is easier in RL as well to learn new instruments if you already play one.
Also perhaps change the emote thing a bit, and make lute playing similar to crafting...
Because it is better to be able to *chose* from different tunes you want to play, and then it turnes out like you planned it, or sounds falsely, depending on your skill.

I say, keep the instruments but change the #me's and perhaps place a timer on it for the present, and drop the skills for now?

Or just ban the people that think it's awesome to shift click there damn instrument 500 times.
We knew your face turned red the first time. Seriously.

I-IV 100% ACK
V sounds interesting, why I am the last one who learns about exploits...?
Replacing the emotes by sfx is an option, but changes nothing the necessity of spamming and the uselessness of instrument skills. Since there will be no bard magic within the foreseeable future due to a lack of a usable concept, possible upcoming changes of bard-features shouldn't be an issue.

If you want to RP your characters RP skills there is nothing that stops you from doing this. You do not have to use the instrument skills.
I fail to see a good point to remove that working system.
